Blox Rack from Pine DSP

Combines six processors with LFOs, envelope follower & macros

Pine DSP's latest offering brings together a set of six virtual processors, houses them in a 500-series-style layout and complements them with a detailed horizontal editing panel.

Blox Rack includes six effects modules: an EQ, compressor, chorus, reverb, delay and exciter. Each of the modules can be loaded as an independent DAW plug-in, or combined into a powerful all-in-one channel strip. They can all be loaded into Blox Rack as vertical modules, although the EQ benefit from a dedicated horizontal pane that allows users to carry out their tone shaping using a familiar-looking graphical curve editor - the panel also offers detailed control over the plug-in's onboard ducking and envelope functions.

The modules can be freely re-ordered, and it's possible to create custom parallel routing combinations as well as running modules in series. In addition to its collection of effects, the plug-in is also equipped with some built-in modulation tools. A set of four LFOs and an envelope follower are joined by an X-Y pad and a set of six macro controls that can all be assigned to just about any parameter.

Six Modules Here's a look at what each of Blox Rack's modules have to offer:

Blox Exciter: Three modes of distortion: Reel, Glass and Ember. Air control for high-frequency emphasis built to play nicely with transients. Hysteresis and Bias controls available in Reel mode for tape character emulation.

Blox EQ: Built to meet professional needs within a small space, Blox EQ can be controlled directly from the horizontal upper panel in Blox Rack. Cmd/Ctrl and Opt/Alt modifiers deal with Q settings and band solo. Each band can be set to Mid or Side mode alongside the default stereo. Blox EQ features high-pass, low-pass, shelving, notch, band-pass and bell filter options.

Blox Reverb: Size, Decay, Damp, Tone, Pre-Delay and Modulation controls to customise your reverb sound, and a Freeze function for holding the reverb in stasis. Duck setting dips the wet signal when a new dry signal plays, with precise control over ducking offered by Depth, Threshold, Attack and Release parameters, along with a spectrogram in the advanced window (top panel).

Blox Delay: Normal, Ping Pong and Diffuse modes give three types of delay behaviour, and a Wash mode designed to animate diffuse repeats. Choose from a range of delay times and sync to the host tempo. Duck setting dips the reverb signal when new input audio reaches the defined threshold.

Blox Chorus: a three-stage chorus effect with Spread, Tone and Character, Rate and Depth controls.

Blox Compressor: a classic compressor with three modes: Smooth for transparent compression, Punch for more characterful, analogue-style compression and Clamp for a tighter response . Blox Compressor has side-chain input, side-chain high-pass, and a Knee control that smooths the curve around the Threshold point.

Compatibility Blox Rack is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 13 and later. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
