Real-time MIDI orchestrator updated
Forma Labs Audio have recently launched a significant update that brings some powerful new features to their real-time MIDI orchestration software.
Launched in June 2026, Filament is capable of hosting and controlling up to 64 AU or VST3 instruments within a single DAW track. As well as hosting the instruments, the plug-in also takes care of MIDI routing, voice allocation, clips, arpeggiators, keyswitch management and mixer states, providing users with an all-in-one solution for controlling orchestral libraries and other complex virtual instruments.
What's New? The plug-in has just been treated to an update that introduces a whole host of new features. Here's a look at what's included in Filament 1.2:
MPE Support: Per-note pitch bend, pressure and timbre for hosted instruments.
Auto Divisi: Automatically distribute chord notes across instrument parts.
Host Mode: Play edited DAW MIDI parts directly through Filament's hosted instruments.
Note-off Revoice: Choose whether releasing a key redistributes the remaining notes.
Routing Highlights: See connections across input layers more clearly.
Matrix Mute/Solo: Silence or isolate instrument rows directly from the routing matrix.

Compatibility Filament 1.2 is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 13 or higher. VST3 and plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application. Note that there is no AAX version, so Pro Tools is not supported.
Pricing & Availability Filament 1.2 is available now, and is a free update for existing users. a new license is priced at £149 including VAT.
