VSL introduce Synchron Solo Violin 1 & Cello (sordino)

First in new line of muted string libraries

VSL have just announced the launch of two new string libraries that represent the first two instalments in a new line of muted solo string instruments. Synchron Solo Violin 1 (sordino) and Synchron Solo Cello (sordino) were both recorded on the large Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage, and are said to capture the distinct, silky' character of muted string playing in extraordinary detail.

Synchron Solo Violin 1 (sordino) once again features acclaimed violinist Marina Dimitrova, the concertmaster of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra who has also performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Synchron Solo Cello (sordino) then features renowned soloist Florian Eggner, first chair cellist of the orchestra and a member of the Grammy-nominated Eggner Trio.

Each collection offers essentially the same set of articulations as its original counterpart, with every note recorded using the sordino. Short notes include the likes of spiccatos, staccatos, d tach s, ricochet and saltando; long notes come with different attacks, releases and slides, while legato variants range from normal and agile to slurred, portamento and zigane. The collection is then completed by a selection of forzatos, tremolos, trills, harmonics and pizzicatos. Thanks to Synchron Player's Crossfade Editor, users are able to blend seamlessly between different articulations and gain full musical control over the sound of their transitions.

To celebrate the arrival of the sordino line, all original Synchron Solo Strings collections are available at specially reduced prices through June 30, 2026. In addition, Synchron Solo Violin 1 and Synchron Solo Cello have just been expanded with new sul tasto and sul ponticello articulations. Existing users receive these new articulations automatically, free of charge.

Compatibility Synchron Solo Violin 1 and Cello run in VSL's Synchron Player, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 13 and later. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
