Evolve Nest Acoustics from Excite Audio

New hybrid sample/synthesis instrument revealed

Excite Audio have just released the latest instalment in their Evolve series, which has been developed in collaboration with sound designer and music maker Nest Acoustics. Combining foley, nature and field recordings with analogue synthesis, the new sample-based instrument delivers what the company have coined a modern botanica sound palette .

Evolve Nest Acoustics is built around a four-layer sound engine, with each layer capable of hosting either a sample-based instrument or synth oscillator; a collection of 250 sample sources are included, and users are free to import their own custom samples. Control over the playback direction, tone and key-tracking parameters is provided for sample-based layers, while synth sources are equipped with oscillator shape and unison de-tuning controls; all sources then benefit from pitch, fine-tuning, velocity sensitivity, panning and volume controls.

Excite Audio have implemented a generous selection of modulation capabilities, all of which promise simple configuration and provide reactive visual feedback. There are 12 sources in total, including six envelopes (ADSR with delay and hold), two LFOs with retriggering and offset parameters, velocity and key-tracking with adjustable curves, and the X and Y positions of the instrument's X-Y pad control. Some onboard effects are included, too, with four specially tailored macro effects joined by dual filters and a set of three rearrangeable effects slots that offer a choice of 16 processors.
