Undertone Audio's MPEQ-1 goes virtual

Popular hardware EQ gets official plug-in emulation

Undertone Audio have just launched a new plug-in that brings one of their most popular hardware designs into software for the first time. MPEQ-1 is said to capture the sound and flexibility of the physical MPEQ-1, while adding some creative tools that extend its capabilities beyond what was possible in the hardware version.

Designed for mixing and mastering applications, the new MPEQ-1 plug-in introduces independent saturation controls on every EQ band, allowing users to shape both the frequency balance and harmonic character of their source material. The EQ bands can be controlled directly using familiar digital parameter controls, or via a graphic recreation of the hardware.

As the plug-in has been created by the same team that were behind the original unit, MPEQ-1 meticulously recreates the iconic hardware's curves, versatile filters, wide-range Q control and unique Vari-Phase mode across its four super-parametric bands. It also introduces the obvious benefits of a plug-in, including full setting recall and automation, as well as offering instant built-in A/B comparisons and onboard spectrum analysis.

Engineers have been asking us when we would release a plug-in version of the MPEQ-1 and our answer was always: only when we could do something genuinely new. Compatibility MPEQ-1 is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability MPEQ-1 is available now, and is currently (23 June 2026) being offered at an introductory price of $119, reduced from its full cost of $149.
