Story Highlights
Few sports events create a more raucous atmosphere than the Ryder Cup. Although match-play golf is compelling, with only four playing groups at a time on the course, it can be a real challenge for spectators to follow the action. That's where the towering LED displays provided by GoVision come in handy for fans at Farmingdale, NY's Bethpage Black. With that in mind, GoVision has blanketed the course with 27 LED boards of various sizes to keep the thousands of fans onsite abreast of all the action.
GoVision's Fan Zone Cube in the People's Plaza at Bethpage is composed of four 21 ft. 5 in. x 16 ft. 5 in.; 3.9 mm LED displays.
I believe that this is the largest temporary LED deployment in North American history, says GoVision founder/Chairman Chris Curtis. I've been in this business a long time, and this blows away any sporting event, inauguration, or music festival that I've ever done or seen by a mile.
GoVision's 27 LED displays, scattered around the course and throughout the VIP and hospitality areas, total 24,308 sq. ft. of video power and encompass nearly 153 million pixels. That's more pixels than the exterior of Vegas Sphere or all the videoboards in New York's Times Square. It's also double the LED square footage deployed at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Wisconsin's Whistling Straits, site of the most recent Ryder Cup on U.S. soil.
In addition, GoVision's crew of 30 onsite technicians are managing more processing power than Mission Control at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, 39 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, or 35 CT-scan machines.

Pixel pitch of the outdoor LED displays varies from 4.8 mm to 3.9 mm; that of indoor displays, between 2.8 mm and 1.9 mm. The GoVision crew worked with PGA of America officials to ensure that every LED board was seamlessly integrated into the environment. The technology of each board is precisely calibrated for optimal viewing, both on-course and in the hospitality areas.
In addition to operating and maintaining the board, GoVision is also tasked with programming all 27 LED boards plus an additional 10 screens as part of the overall production. In addition to live video and replays of the action, the team is also overseeing real-time scoring updates and other key data.
GoVision has rolled out two dedicated trailers in the broadcast compound, one to monitor the hardware onsite in Long Island and the other to produce the live shows for each LED display. Safari Solutions was enlisted to run fiber throughout the course to connect the displays.
Further complicating matters, each screen has its own show, so that the live feeds don't distract the players or the crowd by showing highlights at the wrong time on the wrong hole. With that in mind, GoVision deploys confidence cameras at every tee and green, as well as individual runners monitoring when groups arrive at each hole.
The unique thing on the Ryder Cup is, we essentially have to produce a different show for every screen, says Curtis. We have multiple directors putting this all together, and they all have different responsibilities. It's extremely complex, and everyone has to be on top of their game at all times.

Yet another challenge is the fact that the 27 displays are all of various shapes and aspect ratios, making it difficult to frame video footage coming from the broadcast. To streamline this process, GoVision worked with Chyron to integrate its PRIME real-time graphics platform into the workflow. PRIME allows the GoVision production team to hit one button to send pixel-accurate graphics to each aspect ratio without scaling or overscanning.
With PRIME, says Jake Terrell, design and technical manager, GoVision, Chyron has created a logic that essentially takes one 4 3 scene and auto-adjusts it to the correct pixel size. Instead of having to design [an element] 14 times, we design it once, and PRIME applies logic to it and auto-spaces everything. It streamlines the operation and eliminates hours of work.
The workflow allows six operators to manage not only graphics for the 27 LED screens but also NDI feeds and broadcast feeds via custom control panels designed by GoVision.
It has been a massive team effort, says Terrell. Some people have been here for more than three weeks setting up, and there have been a lot of long nights to make all this possible. But [being] part of one of the largest single LED deployments in the history of the world is a great feeling. It's an amazing group of people, and we're seeing all that hard work pay off.
Here are the LED displays that GoVision is providing at the 2025 Ryder Cup:
