Sky Sports' new season Premier League presentation team
Sky Sports and the Premier League have kicked off a phenomenal new season of English football, with the broadcaster increasing the number of exclusively live matches from 128 to a minimum of 215.
This huge uptick of games all in one place at the start of the new rights holder four year cycle includes every displaced match at 14.00 on Sundays, a first for any UK broadcaster.
For match weeks following midweek European action, when up to four matches may be played simultaneously due to fixture displacement, Super Sundays on Sky Sports will be supersized. Additionally, viewers can keep track of the action using Sky Sports' new programme, Multiview.

Huge uplift
Speaking to SVG Europe, Phil Marshall, executive director for production and operations at Sky Sports, says: From a Premier League perspective, it's the first year of a four-year deal. It's a huge uplift in live games on Sky Sports, from 128 up to at least 215, ultimately giving fans more choice and more value from a production operations and technology viewpoint.
We've done an awful lot and we've been working on this project for 18 months, continues Marshall. There was obviously an initial planning phase and that's been followed by a huge amount of contracting, and now we're into that delivery phase as we've done the first several game weeks. We are the host broadcaster of those games.

The goal for this season of the Premier League for Sky Sports is to tell the stories, says Marshall. I think from our perspective, the ability to tell the story, to tell the narrative of the football of the Premier League, and engage our viewers and customers in fantastic content, is the goal. We do that with the tools that we provide our teams and the facilities that we're able to work with.
Ultimately all that comes down to all of the planning that's been done over the past 18 months by Jennie [Blackmore, head of production at Sky Sports], Kevin [McCue, Sky Sports' director of studios and technology], and many members of the Sky Sports and wider Sky teams in order to ensure that the story is the best we can make it.
Platform and a plan
Marshall says the sustainability side of this Premier League is extremely important to Sky Sports. To aid that goal, the broadcaster has pushed its gradual move towards IP platforms forwards much more rapidly, and its outside broadcast partners have developed new IP-based trucks that also fulfil added sustainability goals.

Marshall comments: Of those at least 215 matches, we've added increased remote production. We were market leading in host broadcast remote production, and our journey started a decade ago, and we are now doing even more of that and even more remote production around Premier League host broadcasting.
To do that, we've had to create a platform and a plan, Marshall continues. We've increased the number of OB facility partners; we've added Cloudbass to our long term incumbent partner, NEP. We've increased our replays at our Wilmslow remote replay centre near Manchester, as well as the number of replays we're doing from Osterley. We also have a new connectivity partner in BT Media & Broadcast.
So in terms of that, we've done a huge amount of planning and now we're into that delivery phase. It's a huge thanks to all those involved in a million elements of this project, from our partners, to staff across various Sky departments, and all of those freelancers across the crafts that are working week in, week out up and down the country to deliver brilliant football to our customers.
On how the season has gone so far, Marshall says: It comes back to huge team effort. To put on delivery of host broadcasting to this level and around this quality of product has taken an enormous team effort with a few weeks in, there's loads of works to continuing that we're doing, there's loads of refinement as we build into the season, and so far, so good.
