The 2026.5 release adds automatic deinterlacing, updated AI models, easier effect isolation, revamped warps & transitions, and enhanced particles.

Boris FX Continuum, the acclaimed visual effects plugin collection, introduces its 2026.5 release. The latest version of the Emmy Award-winning software delivers a new AI deinterlace tool, four updated AI models, a new compositing workflow in the FX Editor, overhauled warp and displacement effects, upgraded wipe transitions, and greater creative control in Particle Illusion.

As we continue to leverage internal AI technology to build new tools, we always keep the needs of Continuum's editors, artists, and content creators at the forefront, states Boris Yamnitsky, CEO and Founder of Boris FX. We carefully choose which types of tasks benefit from AI workflows, such as image restoration and masking. Accordingly, the 2026.5 release adds a new deinterlace tool that uses AI to instantly transform archival, analog footage into progressive-scan frames and also includes more accurate models on our popular face segmentation and license plate masking tools, as well as our motion blur and upres effects.

Boris FX Continuum 2026.5: New nose and neck segmentation in Face ML (AI)

AI Tools Continuum's AI-assisted capabilities grow with a new image restoration effect, updated masking, motion blur, and upres models, and additional flexibility.

BCC Deinterlace ML: Automatically, precisely converts interlaced video, including analog TV, VHS tapes, etc., into progressive-scan frames.

Updated AI Models: Improved accuracy on Face ML, License Plate ML, Motion Blur ML, and UpRes ML.

BCC Face ML: Adds new nose and neck segmentation.

BCC Motion Blur ML: Adds a prismatic colored blur trails feature.

Continuum 2026.5 also features a new ML/AI model unload system. If an ML model isn't used for a certain time period, the effect automatically unloads the model from a user's GPU to free up space. Once it's needed again, it reloads instantly.

Boris FX Continuum 2026.5: Pixel Chooser integration in the FX Editor

FX Editor Continuum's FX Editor is a unique, custom interface that allows users to easily browse thousands of effect presets, star their favorites, adjust parameter controls, and save custom presets. The 2026.5 release adds three new features that further streamline workflows.

The integrated Pixel Chooser lets users isolate effects in a single layer with shape masks, luminance keys, and AI-driven depth maps to enhance focus. The addition helps eliminate complicated setups and messy layers.

A new Color Management Panel ensures consistent color workflows with industry-standard OCIO color config presets. The panel also includes Exposure and Gamma sliders.

The Info Panel provides real-time readout of RGBA and pixel position data for accurate color control.

Boris FX Continuum 2026.5: Updated Ripple Effect

Effects & Transitions The 2026.5 release reimagines ten Continuum effects and transitions, improves performance, and adds new features for finer creative control.

A major upgrade to Continuum's Warp category helps artists create rich, complex distorted looks without keyframes. BCC Ripple includes three independent ripples that users can adjust separately or globally, new waveform shapes, and perpendicular height options. BCC Displacement Map, BCC Polar Displacement, and BCC Vector Displacement effects include access to 1000 built-in displacement maps and RGB separation via the FX Editor. The updated effects have built-in glitch to create cinematic fracturing and an integrated Beat Reactor that automatically syncs animations to music.

Boris FX Continuum 2026.5: Updated Displacement Effects

Three wipe transitions - BCC Smoke Wipe, BCC Texture Wipe, and BCC Depth Wipe - add a powerful new gradient control. The option allows editors to guide the direction, focus, and motion of a wipe, using gradients to blend shots more naturally and draw the viewer's attention. Gradient types and radial direction can be easily changed using the FX Editor.

Continuum 2026.5 also adds 150 new presets across Blur, Lens, Particle Illusion, Stylize, Title Studio, Transitions, and Warp effect categories; new parameters in BCC Scanline, BCC Lens Flare Dissolve, BCC Ripple Dissolve, and BCC Displacement Dissolve; improvements to Title Studio; and Beat Reactor integrated into seven more effects.

Boris FX Continuum 2026.5: New parameter linking in Particle Illusion

Particles Particle Illusion, available in Continuum or as a standalone application (Particle Illusion Pro), adds dynamic new controls that make customizing 2D/3D particle presets faster and more intuitive.

Parameter Linking: Links parameters across particle nodes to instantly update all linked nodes.

Color Mapping: New gradient mapping modes give users precise, non-random color control. Includes angular, linear, and radial mapping modes. Adjust gradient offset and angle to rotate or reposition color transitions.

Clone Particle Type: Automatically link all position-related parameters to keep multi-node effects aligned, even while making adjustments.

Link All Clone Parameters: Allows artists to retroactively adjust looks and existing presets.
