After the success of the first edition, applications open today to participate to the second edition of the mentoring and access to work initiative aimed at Italian female talents in the audiovisual industry

Among the most relevant innovations, the inclusion of a fifth professional field for the profile of producer and coordinator of digital visual effects (VFX) and the introduction of a practical exercise

Daniela Bassani, Luca Bigazzi, Esmeralda Calabria, Francesca Comencini, Ivan Cotroneo, Daria D'Antonio, Walter Fasano and Francesco Tumminello are confirmed as mentors of the initiative. They will be joined by Gaia Bussolati and Luca Della Grotta for the new category.

July 19, 2022 - Applications to participate in the second edition of "Becoming Maestre - A springboard for a new generation of female professionals in the film and TV industry", open today on the site https://becomingmaestre.daviddidonatello.it/. The mentoring and access to work initiative aimed at Italian female talents in the audiovisual industry is conceived and developed by Accademia del Cinema Italiano - Premi David di Donatello and Netflix and is part of the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity.

The two major innovations of the second edition are: first of all, the inclusion of a fifth professional category, producer and coordinator of digital visual effects (VFX), which joins direction, direction of photography, editing and sound. Secondly, the inclusion within the program of a coordinated practical exercise aimed at enhancing the learnings and the synergies between the mentees.

The formula successfully created last year remains unchanged: an exceptional jury, made up of Maestre and Maestri of the audiovisual industry, who have won and / or received nominations for the David di Donatello Awards, will select and follow the thirty selected mentees (six per category) throughout the course of the programme. All the mentors of the last edition have been confirmed: Daniela Bassani and Francesco Tumminello (sound), Esmeralda Calabria and Walter Fasano (editing), Francesca Comencini and Ivan Cotroneo (direction), Daria DAntonio and Luca Bigazzi (direction of photography), with new members Gaia Bussolati and Luca Della Grotta for digital visual effects (VFX).

The program will last about 6 months - not full time - and will include:

Individual tutoring sessions and group tutoring workshops (for each professional category), in which the students will have the opportunity to deepen and develop the specific skills needed in their professional field by exchanging views with the mentors of their own discipline;

Collective masterclasses, allowing students both to increase their knowledge of the film and TV series production industry as a whole, as well as to create a network, by interacting with the fellow mentees, with the mentors and with other important experts of this field. This year, too, important Italian and international personalities of the film and TV industry will join the mentors and will share their experience with the students of Becoming Maestre.

Coaching sessions with specialized training experts to help students acquire or improve complementary but important skills, ranging from how to pitch a project to better manage collaborations and teamwork.

At the end of the course, a dedicated commission together with the mentors will select five students (one for each professional area) who will be offered a job as assistants on an Italian production involving Netflix (film or tv series).

The list of thirty selected mentees will be announced by the end of October 2022 on the website https://becomingmaestre.daviddidonatello.it/.

The individual tutoring sessions, the tutoring workshops by category and the collective masterclasses will take place approximately between November 2022 and May 2023.

The names of the five selected mentees who will be offered a work position as assistants on an Italian production where Netflix is involved will be announced by the end of June 2023.
