Televisas IBC Team Delivers for Opening Mexico Match

For Televisa Technical Engineering Manager Roberto N nez Ibarra and the small team of 12 technicians and two production personnel at the IBC things are already off to a good start with Mexico's win against South Africa.

The IBC has nearly 40 rights holders on site but there is a special pressure on being the broadcaster of the first match. Ibarra says the team was in early on the day of the opening match, making sure all of the connectivity and commentary circuits between Azteca Stadium in Mexico City and were operating perfectly.

Our team at the stadium sends all of the signals to us here at the IBC and then we send them back to our studios in Mexico City to make sure all of the metadata information in the signal is passed through, he explains.

Televisa coverage of the opening match began at 6 am with the TUDN department handling much of the coverage. Later there were some sports programming and then match coverage began around noon.

Televisa's presence north of the Mexican border for the World Cup include a crew in Dallas, a crew in New York City with a rooftop studio overlooking the Hudson and then a crew in Canada.

The Televisa technical team at the IBC in Dallas (l-to-r): Ruben Cordoba, Arturo Bonilla, Sergio Hernandez, Marco Charpenel, Juan Carlos Fuerte, Roberto Nu ez and Javier Rojas. Signals from those crews go straight back to Mexico City, adds Ibarra. From here we send back 36 signals and then another 36 backup signals. And then we have SRT signals over fiber to New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles as well as satellite feeds coming in from some of the other stadiums. We have everything covered through multiple pipelines.

Among the gear used by Televisa is a small Yamaha audio mixer to mix commentary channels, an Appear X20 encoder and decoder, Net Insight Nimbra Ethernet switches, and more.
