Collaboration gives content owners scalable CDN capacity and broadcasters enhanced flexibility, including for C-band transition planning
Quortex today announced a strategic collaboration with NetActuate, a leading provider of global infrastructure and network services. As part of this agreement, the Quortex Edge Content Delivery Network (CDN) control plane has been installed within the NetActuate network, enabling caching across any of its 45 global locations. Additionally, Quortex products Edge, PowerVu and vDCM are integrated with NetActuate's Media Substrate, a globally distributed edge platform, to solve one of broadcasters' biggest challenges: the need for a high-performance, IP-based alternative to satellite C-band distribution.
A satellite-grade game plan for broadcasters
As the C-Band transition looms, North American broadcasters face an unavoidable challenge: ensuring last-mile connectivity, a pivotal and delicate element of the distribution chain. To address this, the companies combined Quortex's proven edge processing technology and control plane with NetActuate's media substrate to create a media-aware distribution platform, giving broadcasters endless distribution choice from ARQs to an Edge CDN, underpinned by last-mile intelligence. With NetActuate's global infrastructure, broadcasters have access to a private network designed exclusively for video distribution and built to support high availability even during peak demand. Furthermore, the solution delivers the same one-to-many reliability that broadcasters expect without the spectrum dependency, cost and inflexibility of a public CDN.
NetActuate's C-band Transition Acceleration Service supports the engineered routing, redundancy, and distribution-grade transport that C-band transitions demand: from rooftop and edge-adjacent deployment coordination, to backhaul, to anycast-based traffic steering designed for predictable failover.
Broadcasters shouldnt have to choose between the reliability theyve always had with satellite and the flexibility they need from IP. And at the same time, content owners shouldn't have to sacrifice CDN capacity when their viewers expect it most, said Elke Hungenaert, Head of Product, Quortex. Through our work with NetActuate, we're changing the economics of distribution and streaming by giving broadcasters a far superior alternative to C-Band and content owners the ability to spin up a fully operational CDN in minutes. This is just the start.
A broadcast-grade CDN for streamers
Content owners are seeking greater control, predictability, and end-to-end visibility into their content delivery system, especially as quality of service and quality of experience continue to impact viewer retention. The integration of Edge onto NetActuate's compute infrastructure offers content providers the ability to create CDN capacity where and when needed using elastic caching. This can be spun up within minutes, making it ideal for live event scaling and managing peak traffic.
As a private CDN, Edge delivers high-performance, scalable, and targeted video delivery without the high commits and heavy traffic typically associated with public CDNs built for multi-purposes, beyond video. It scales intelligently and dynamically based on demand, reducing idle infrastructure thus lowering energy and usage costs.
We chose to partner with Quortex because its technology is industry leading and they are the only vendor to offer both CDN and compression technology, said Mark Mahle, CEO of NetActuate. Together, we're offering a genuine alternative to hyperscaler infrastructure because we give broadcasters and content owners more control over their infrastructure and their workloads by optimizing the CDN based on their exact needs at that time.
The benefits of this collaboration are available now to U.S. broadcasters preparing for the C-band transition.
