BCNEXXT will showcase the latest evolution of Vipe at IBC2026 (Stand 2.B09), introducing a series of innovations designed to deliver higher-quality audience experiences, simplify increasingly complex playout operations, and further improve infrastructure performance and efficiency.
Playout is being asked to do more. Support more formats, more services and more variations of those services all while the pressure to simplify operations and reduce costs continues to increase, said Graham Sharp, VP of Sales and Marketing at BCNEXXT. With VIPE, we're approaching those challenges as interconnected. The innovations we're bringing to IBC improve what audiences experience, make complex operations easier to manage, and intelligently optimize the infrastructure underneath them.
The new capabilities span three key areas of Vipe innovation: Quality & Audience Experience, Simplifying Operations and Engineered Performance.
Quality & Audience Experience BCNEXXT is expanding Vipe's support for next-generation video and audio experiences with HDR and Dolby Atmos.
Vipe now supports Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), the HDR format developed by the BBC and NHK for broadcast applications. HLG provides greater brightness, contrast and color range while maintaining compatibility with SDR displays, making it particularly well suited to live television and broadcast environments.
Vipe enables SDR and HDR versions to be produced and distributed simultaneously, as well as conversion between SDR and HDR. This allows broadcasters to integrate existing SDR content into HDR services.
BCNEXXT is also pleased to share that Vipe is one of the first professional playout solutions licensed for Dolby Atmos, enabling broadcasters and media organizations to incorporate immersive audio into their playout workflows. Operators can manage Dolby Atmos-enabled content alongside conventional broadcast audio as part of the same Vipe environment.
Together, the capabilities enable media organizations to enhance the audience experience without introducing separate operational silos for emerging video and audio formats.
Simplifying Operations BCNEXXT has added enhanced regional opt-out functionality, further simplifying the management of multiple channel variants.
Vipe enables multiple regional services to be derived from a main channel, supporting the insertion of live local news and file-based programming, commercials, and interstitials. The functionality also supports rights blanking and replacement for streaming services where content rights may vary between services or regions.
A new two-dimensional user interface gives operators a single point of control from which multiple opt-out channels and live content can be viewed and managed simultaneously, helping increase the number of services an operator can efficiently oversee.
BCNEXXT is also adding support for the Time Addressable Media Store (TAMS), an open-source initiative developed by BBC R&D. Rather than requiring media to be retrieved by file name or sequential position, TAMS enables media stored on object storage to be accessed directly by time position or timestamp. Content can also be accessed as soon as it is written, opening new opportunities to accelerate live and time-sensitive workflows.
A single TAMS store can support multiple uses across linear broadcast, streaming, live, social media and VOD, supporting BCNEXXT's broader philosophy of record once and use many times.
Engineered Performance BCNEXXT is further extending one of Vipe's fundamental architectural differentiators: its ability to strictly scale and manage compute resources according to the actual requirements of the content being played out.
The latest Vipe release introduces dynamic CPU/GPU optimization, automatically scaling both CPU and GPU resources based on advanced analysis of the content and its processing requirements.
Rather than provisioning every channel for its most compute-intensive scenario all of the time, Vipe applies resources according to what the workload actually requires.
This Intelligent Automation of infrastructure resources, combined with enhanced presentation of system operating metrics through simplified user interfaces, is designed to reduce infrastructure and administration overhead while increasing the number of channels operators can efficiently manage.
TAMS further contributes to this architectural efficiency by enabling Vipe to use object storage rather than requiring high-performance file systems and, in cloud deployments, allowing storage resources to scale according to business and workload requirements.
Efficiency in playout isn't simply about using less infrastructure; it's about using the right infrastructure at the right time, continued Sharp. Vipe was engineered around that principle from the beginning. Dynamic CPU and GPU optimization takes it further by making the allocation of compute an intelligent, automated part of the playout operation.
