Echo SE III T5 Connects Three Professional PCIe Cards to Laptops and Compact Desktop Computers Through a Single Cable

What's New: Sonnet Technologies today announced the Echo SE III T5 Thunderbolt 5 to PCIe card expansion system, bringing three slots of professional expansion to a compact desktop enclosure. Designed for video, audio, broadcast, networking, and storage workflows, the system enables users to add the specialized connectivity and processing capabilities their work demands to computers equipped with Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, or USB4 ports.

What It Does: The Echo SE III T5 expansion system connects three PCIe cards to a computer through a single included Thunderbolt 5 cable. The system features three x8 PCIe 3.1 slots and accommodates full-height, half-length+ cards (up to 7.75 inches long). Users can install three single-width cards or one double-width card plus one single-width card. A 6-pin auxiliary PCIe power connector supports cards that require additional power.

Compatible card types include video capture, streaming, and transcoding; professional audio and DSP; 10Gb and 25Gb Ethernet; SSD storage; and SAS host bus adapters. The system supports Mac , Windows , and Linux computers.

Why It's Important: Today's laptops and compact desktop computers deliver powerful processing capabilities but lack the PCIe slots professionals need to build a complete workflow. The Echo SE III T5 bridges that gap, enabling users to combine multiple specialized cards in one compact system. A video professional can add capture, high-speed networking, and storage connectivity, while an audio professional can expand I/O and DSP capabilities - all through a single connection to the computer.

Measuring just 6.5 inches wide by 11 inches deep by 4.6 inches tall and weighing 3.7 pounds, the Sonnet expansion system fits comfortably on a desk and is easy to transport between work locations.

How It's Distinctive: The Echo SE III T5 offers several advantages for professional users:

Three-card expansion in a compact design: Accommodates up to three professional PCIe cards in a rugged aluminum enclosure, giving users room to expand their capabilities while keeping their desktop setup manageable.

Quiet cooling for sound-sensitive environments: A temperature-controlled Noctua fan automatically adjusts its speed to cool the installed cards. The enclosure's airflow design supports efficient cooling and quiet operation for recording, editing, and broadcast workflows.

Secure, single-cable connectivity: An included Thunderbolt 5 cable and ThunderLok connector lock provide a reliable connection and help prevent accidental cable disconnections.

An additional connection for peripherals: A second Thunderbolt 5 port enables users to connect an additional Thunderbolt or USB device and supplies up to 15 watts of power for bus-powered peripherals.

Automatic power management: The system powers on and off with the connected computer, simplifying everyday operation and helping conserve energy.

When You Can Get It: Echo SE III T5 (part number ECHO-SE3-T5) is available now from Sonnet at a price of $799.99.
