University of Alabama Installs Daktronics Displays at Coleman Coliseum

The University of Alabama has installed a new Daktronics display system at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa. It includes a 360-degree centerhung with four underbelly displays and two end wall displays for replays, statistics, graphics and other digital content.

The main video display measures 20 feet high by 102 feet in circumference and uses more than 13.4 million LEDs. Daktronics says the centerhung has 30 times the pixels of the previous main displays. Each of the four underbelly displays measures 6.5 feet high by 20 feet wide. The two end wall displays each measure 11 feet high by 14 feet wide. The centerhung displays use 3.7-millimeter pixel spacing, and the end wall displays use 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing.

The project replaces a Daktronics installation completed in 2009 that included four centerhung displays with 10-millimeter pixel spacing.

The new center-hung display at Coleman Coliseum is a game changer for the University of Alabama, says Aaron Hepp, Assistant Athletic Director, University of Alabama. Fan experience is a top priority for the Athletic Department, and these new displays give us the ability to create and showcase content in exciting and unique ways. The addition of these displays will greatly enhance the overall fan experience at Coleman Coliseum.

Our partnership with Alabama Athletics spans more than 30 years, making this project especially meaningful, says Glen Marts, Sales Representative, Daktronics. I was able to be a part of the project team 16 years ago when it was originally installed, which speaks to the quality and reliability we provide our customers. We're proud to continue that legacy in this new system designed to support Crimson Tide fans and the university for years to come.
