Berklee's Africana Studies Division will induct trailblazing artist Big Daddy Kane into the Berklee Hip-Hop Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 19, at 8 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center, in an event that features a ceremony and concert celebrating his cultural impact on the genre.

For more than five decades, hip-hop has shaped cultures, inspired generations, and left an indelible mark on communities across the globe, said Emmett G. Price III, founding dean of the Africana Studies Division. This year, as in years past, we honor hip-hop's past, celebrate its present, and embrace its future as a testament to Afrodiasporic brilliance, resilience, and hope. Big Daddy Kane exemplifies this legacy, reflecting both the cultural significance and enduring influence of hip-hop.

Recognized as a paradigm-shifting force in the golden age of hip-hop, Big Daddy Kane (Antonio Hardy) revolutionized the craft of songwriting from both a technical and lyrical perspective. A cornerstone member of the legendary Juice Crew in the mid-1980s, Kanes seminal flow, pioneering double-time rhyming schemes, and larger-than-life persona set a new standard of emcee brilliance. Seminal tracks such as Aint No Half-Steppin and Raw continue to inspire and influence contemporary rappers. In 1991, Kane earned a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for his contribution to Back On The Block, from the iconic Quincy Jones '51 '83H album of the same name.

Kane joins an elite group of past inductees that includes Rakim, Roxanne Shant , Kid 'n Play, Edo G., the Floor Lords, Barbara Thomas, the Wonder Twins, and Berklee professor Prince Charles Alexander. The event will also feature Berklee student artists performing original work and tribute arrangements, culminating with a feature showcase set of Big Daddy Kane's biggest hits performed by Kane himself.

The evening will also mark the fifth anniversary of Berklee's Africana Studies Division, which celebrates and advances the artistic, cultural, and scholarly traditions of the African diaspora. Bringing together hip-hop pioneers and student artists, the event explores the genre's connections to oral storytelling, rhythmic innovation, griot traditions, and call-and-response performance styles from generations of Black, Afro-Caribbean, and Latino communities.

The concert is produced by Emmett G. Price III and Tracy Gibbs. The Berklee Performance Center is located at 136 Massachusetts Avenue in Boston. Admission is $19.50 in advance and $16.50 for students. This show will be seated. Tickets are available online and at the Berklee Box Office.
