Sky Adds Blood on Snow to Original Film Slate in Acquisition Headlined by Benedict Cumberbatch and Aaron Taylor Johnson
Blood on Snow, the star-studded crime thriller from director Cary Joji Fukunaga (No Time To Die, True Detective), will premiere in the UK as a Sky Original film. Based on the bestselling novel by acclaimed author Jo Nesb , the film is led by an exceptional ensemble cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Eva Green, Emma Laird and Ben Mendelsohn.
Following the success of Sky's previous acquisition of Nesb adaptation The Hanging Sun, the studio will bring this newest adaption to UK cinemas in 2027. Scripted by Nesb in association with Ben Power, Blood on Snow is set in Oslo's criminal underworld and follows a contract killer played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. When faced with an emotionally charged moral dilemma, the assassin must form an uneasy alliance which drags him to the heart of Oslo's deadly gang war.
In a comment on the acquisition, Sky's Head of Original Film Andrew Orr noted, We're delighted to be working with an exciting filmmaker of Cary Joji Fukunaga's calibre, as we continue to build a fresh and diverse offering of Original films. Nesb 's writing is exceptional, and the strength of the cast's performances make this a standout addition to our slate.
Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer will produce the film under the Department M, in association with executive producers Hardy Son & Baker's Tallulah Fairfax as well as Damiano Tucci, Sophia Banks & Tiziano Tucci.
Synopsis
Hoffman's trusted hitman, Olav (Johnson), is a cold, efficient killer, perfect for the job. But beneath his ruthless exterior lies an unexpected intelligence and an unwavering moral code shaped by a complicated childhood When Hoffman orders his own wife to be murdered, Olav's principles clash with his loyalties. Instead of pulling the trigger, he hatches a scheme that makes him Hoffman's next target and with nowhere safe to turn, Olav forms an uneasy alliance that places him at the heart of Oslo's deadly gang war. Once a violent enforcer, Olav's choice makes him an unlikely hero in a world where no good deed goes unpunished.
