NSC TV Selects Appear X Platform to Move Santa Catarina Distribution From Satellite to IP

Appear has announced that NSC TV, a TV Globo affiliate in Brazil, has selected the Appear X Platform to migrate its distribution network across the state of Santa Catarina from satellite to IP. The deployment connects six locations, allowing NSC to centralize broadcasting operations and laying the groundwork for remote sports and studio production. NSC's programming reaches more than 97% of the state's population, according to the release.

The deployment combines an Appear X20 at NSC's Florian polis headquarters with main and backup X5 platforms at each of its five regional sites: Joinville, Blumenau, Crici ma, Chapec and Joa aba. The X5 provides AVC/HEVC encoding, decoding and Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) connectivity at the regional facilities, while the X20 handles central processing and aggregation. The platforms support 10-bit 4:2:2 video and HDR. Appear says NSC chose the platform after a proof of concept and competitive evaluation.

For resilience, the design uses main and backup X5 platforms, seamless switching between internet service providers and SMPTE ST 2022-7 protection. Centralized monitoring gives NSC's engineers visibility into system performance across all six locations.

NSC plans to use the infrastructure for remote sports and studio production. SRT connectivity will allow live feeds from regional locations to reach the central production facility in Florian polis, which NSC expects will make greater use of existing production resources and reduce the need to duplicate infrastructure at individual venues.
