Game Creek Video's Lauren Mitchell, Gianna Nigro Lead Yogi-Based Team as Female EIC Duo

Classmates at Ithaca College and in the Game Creek Video Apprenticeship Program, the friends are in the forefront of a younger, more diverse workforce

In live sports broadcasting, engineers are some of the kindest and most important people you'll ever meet. Willing to sacrifice for the team, solving technological issues at a moment's notice, and doing so without recognition by fans watching the game, the two individuals leading Game Creek Video Yogi in the broadcast compound at American Family Field during the 2026 World Series - Engineers in Charge [EIC] Lauren Mitchell in the A unit and Gianna Nigro in the B unit - not only are shining in their roles but are blazing trails as young, female EICs at the Fall Classic.

I feel really lucky to be in this position right now, says Nigro. I'm still learning so much, and there are days when I feel that way more than others, but there aren't many people that can say they get to do this with one of their closest friends.

Gianna Nigro (left) and Lauren Mitchell during Bombers Live at Ithaca College Football vs. the University of Rochester on Oct. 8, 2022Their story starts as many stories do when high school graduation looms: burning off the final months of senior year by searching for a college with just the right environment that mixes fun with career growth and potential. Mitchell and Nigro were from different hometowns, but both chose Ithaca College, a small institution nestled among New York State's Finger Lakes and boasting a history of notable graduates in sports media. The two freshmen bumped into each other on the very first day of school.

It happened to be raining, and I didn't have an umbrella, Mitchell recalls. Gianna had one and offered to share it with me. We ran into each other two weeks later at a club on campus, and I was so excited to see someone I recognized.

They became fast friends and realized that they had similar interests and class schedules. As they were fully immersed in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, entry-level classes led to their becoming members of Ithaca College Television (ICTV).

Those early years and classes taught them both what they wanted and didn't want in a career. Many of their cohorts wanted to be in front of the camera, but both Mitchell and Nigro felt more comfortable operating behind the scenes as student engineers.

As juniors, they came under consideration for the Game Creek Video Apprenticeship Program. The one-year program offers young broadcast technicians the chance to get hands-on experience with professional-grade equipment prior to college graduation. Both applied, and Mitchell was accepted and headed out to the field shop in Hudson, NH, in July 2023. Nigro received a different response.

I didn't get in the first time I applied, she says. I worked at CBS Sports as a broadcast associate for a few months but was urged to re-apply in January 2024 and was able to get in. Lauren and I overlapped during that summer, which was really fun.

Mitchell and Nigro at the ICTV AwardsMitchell, in September 2024, near the end of her time in Hudson, notched her first achievement in her career as a member of the team that launched GCV Hollywood: she was assigned to GCV Yogi, a mobile unit primarily covering sports in the New York metropolitan area. During this time, she cut her teeth on the New York Yankees regular season and worked her first MLB Postseason on the live-studio team. She transitioned to the tape room in 2025 before assuming the lead in the A unit this year.

While Mitchell was in her first official year in the industry, Nigro was three months into the apprenticeship. In April 2025, she made her way to the Big Apple, where she showcased her abilities on Game Creek Video's various trucks. After that year's MLB Postseason, she was reunited with Mitchell in Yogi.

Whereas Mitchell's first experience in the mobile unit was sports-related, Nigro's first time in the truck was the 103rd National Christmas Tree Lighting in Washington, DC, on Dec. 4, 2025. Later that month, the pair went on to work the College Football Playoff First Round matchup between Tulane and Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Dec. 20 and the 2026 Orange Bowl between Oregon and Texas Tech at Hard Rock Stadium on New Year's Day. From April to September, they led the dual-feed productions of the 2026 Yankees season in The Bronx before Nigro's first taste of the MLB Postseason.

Mitchell and Nigro are exhibiting their skills during this Rays-Brewers World Series, but they've been on display throughout the playoffs. Last year, this meant traveling to Detroit in the American League Division Series, Seattle in the American League Championship Series, and Los Angeles in the World Series. Luckily, this year, they've stayed put in Milwaukee since the beginning of the NLDS on Oct. 3.

Their skill set was molded and influenced by various mentors at Game Creek Video. This includes Yogi current staffers Senior EIC Evan Aaron and EIC Ben Burns as well as former Yogi staffers and fellow Ithaca alumnae EIC Allie Lott, who now works on GCV Ovation for NFL on FOX and was one of the first female engineers in New York City, and EIC Alyssa Genereux, working on one of the CBS Sports trucks.

The people who've come before us, says Mitchell, put a lot of effort into making sure we're not only good at the job but are also enjoying it, feeling confident, and able to help the client when an issue pops up.
