Bridge Technologies Joins Grass Valley's MXL-Native AMPP Ecosystem

Bridge Technologies has announced its participation in the Media eXchange Layer (MXL) initiative following IBC2026, saying the work has supported the containerization of its full range of audio and video scopes. The tools can now be accessed through MXL-native systems such as Grass Valley's AMPP OS, an open, cloud-native, microservice-based operating system and virtualized media production platform, giving users access to cross-vendor, on-demand production tools.

AMPP uses MXL as an underlying transport layer for low-latency interoperability. MXL was developed in collaboration with the EBU, the Linux Foundation, NABA, and several large broadcast technology providers. It is a vendor-neutral, open-source layer for IP-native, software-defined media production. Content is ingested once and accessed via shared memory across multiple containerized processes, allowing vendors and applications to use the same media stream in parallel.

Bridge has containerized a number of components from its production tool suite, repackaging its video and audio monitoring scopes. The scopes can run independent of underlying hardware, and Bridge says that, combined with MXL's reduced reliance on constant network read/write cycles, the approach cuts latency, network overhead, and infrastructure cost.

The scopes are available on a case-by-case basis, allowing broadcasters to temporarily spin them up as a microservice and monitor on-demand fluctuations in users, such as during annual global sporting events.

Bridge Technologies' work with MXL is a good example of how an open approach can bring third-party applications into software-based media workflows. With AMPP OS now MXL-native, Bridge's containerised monitoring tools can be accessed within the AMPP environment, giving users greater flexibility in how and when they deploy these capabilities. It also demonstrates the value of bringing technology partners together around a common approach to media exchange, says Matt Yates, Director of Strategic Alliances, Grass Valley.
