Cableguys release TimeStop

A new take on tape-stop effects

The latest plug-in from Cableguys offers an interesting new take on the classic tape-stop effect, and also promises to make it quicker and easier than ever to create thanks to an intuitive automation-based approach.

TimeStop features a large central dial that governs the tape-stop effect, and rather than relying on set bar lengths, bouncing and manual adjustments, the control can simply be automated from a DAW track. The approach means users can quickly create slowdowns of the exact length they need, as well as adjusting the shape of the pitch/speed curve, and as there's no bouncing or offline processing involved, the results can be changed and edited with ease.

The company have also kitted TimeStop out with three timing modes: Classic, Modern and Loop. The first, as it's name suggests, delivers your standard slow-down effect, with pitch and time both dropping simultaneously. Modern does what Cableguys say is a first for such a plug-in, and drops the incoming signal's pitch without affecting its timing, ensuring sources remain locked to the beat. Loop mode then captures a slice of audio and retriggers it, creating a stutter effect that's then processed by the central control.

Compatibility TimeStop is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.15 and later. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
