Johannesburg, 27 June 2025 - As the nation commemorates Youth Month
2025, the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) stands in proud
support of South Africa's young visionaries through its annual bursary open call for Film and Television studies.
Inspiring a nation of winners begins with empowering young South Africans to see themselves as creators, innovators, and
leaders. The NFVF is committed to showcasing a variety of entrepreneurial works within the Cultural and Creative Industries that reflect the diversity and potential of our youth.
As part of this commitment, the NFVF invites eligible youth to apply for bursary funding for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Film and Television disciplines at accredited institutions in South Africa. The programme aims to ensure equitable access to
the creative economy and foster diverse, representative storytelling
that reflects our realities and hopes.
This bursary call, which opened on 2 June 2025, closes on 31 July 2025. The bursary provides 100% financial aid tuition fees for students in any year of their undergraduate studies, where there may be capped contributions towards accommodation, meals, and educational resources for first-year students. Preference will be given to students enrolled at public tertiary institutions and those demonstrating academic merit and financial need. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible and not to delay submitting their applications.
In further recognition of Youth Month and in support of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture's national programme, the
NFVF also participated in the 2025 Creative & Cultural Industries Youth Career Expo and National Youth Day Exhibition held in Potchefstroom on 15 and 16 June 2025. At these events, the NFVF showcased career opportunities within the film and TV industry, engaged with learners, job seekers and aspiring creatives, and offered guidance on how to access bursaries and funding.
These exhibitions, hosted under the theme Skills for the Changing World: Empowering Youth for Meaningful Economic Participation , reinforced the NFVF's role as an enabler of economic access and transformation through the creative arts.
Voices of Impact: NFVF Alumni Testimonials
NFVF's bursary programme continues to unlock opportunities
for young South Africans across the creative industries. Past recipients shared how the support shaped their careers:
I have successfully graduated with my master's
degree, which was made possible through the NFVF's funding, shares Naledi Bogacwi, Executive Producer at Trial by Media. Your support has been instrumental in my academic journey. I'm truly grateful for the confidence and trust you have placed in me.
Since leaving The Animation School (TAS) and starting work,
I have been working for a company in the UK called Clear Angle Studios. We do 3D photogrammetry scanning for movies. I have worked on hundreds of movies and have been mentioned in 3 movie credits. Deadpool vs Wolverine, Lilo and Stitch, and the new Mission Impossible. I look back at my time studying and how the NFVF changed my life. I am forever grateful for the opportunity given to me and
the support I received from everyone. Shares Blaze Ballantyne
I am so grateful to the NFVF for the support I received-without it I most definitely wouldn't be where I am today, says Kelsey Le Roux, a film and media composer. Since graduating, I've composed for
local and international productions, including the SAFTAs-nominated feature film Kind' and several projects across genres. I'm passionate about bringing powerful stories to life through music, and I'm always eager to collaborate with local filmmakers.
Thank you to the NFVF for funding my final year and for the opportunity to attend the summit, says Nkululeko Mkhomazi.
Your patience and support brought me a step closer to fulfilling my dreams. May you continue to uplift the next generation.
Youth Month isn't just about reflection; it's about action, inclusion, and investment. The NFVF remains committed to equipping young South Africans with the resources and opportunities they need
to write their stories and shape their futures, said Yolanda Ncokotwana, NFVF Head of Industry Development.
