For the 2019 South African Womens Day, the nonprofit arts organization the Mama Project commissioned Cape Town native Alutha Taho to write a song about empowerment and unity. The resulting anthem, Together We Can, was released worldwide on August 9, in tandem with Womens Day, and features Taho (lead vocals) and Thulani Marks (keyboards), both of whom traveled from South Africa to attend this summers Aspire: Five-Week Performance Intensive. Also featured in an accompanying video are Boston Conservatory at Berklee students Shreya Navile and Fray Cordero, and faculty member Alli Ross. The Mama Projects founder, Sara Stackhouse, is the former chair of the Conservators Theater Department.
