Tennessee Titans' New Nissan Stadium Will Live Up to Its Music City Location

Taking the synergy of sports and entertainment a step further, the NFL venue in Nashville will house iterations of two iconic music clubs

The marriage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce quintessentially embodies the convergence of sports and entertainment. But less vaunted folks also have been busy putting music and football together.

(Photo: Donald Page/Tennessee Titans)In June, The Bluebird Cafe, the listening room where countless Nashville songwriters and artists (including Swift) cut their musical teeth, announced that its first-ever satellite venue will be inside the NFL Tennessee Titans' new Nissan Stadium, which is scheduled to open in February. On Aug. 4, Robert's Western World, an equally iconic music venue, proclaimed it will do the same.

Competing on Nashville's sprawling entertainment matrix and situated about five miles apart, the two clubs will be neighbors inside the stadium: the Bluebird will be positioned directly behind the east-side end zone (which, in a first for the NFL, will have its own permanent in-bowl stage); Robert's will reside on Level 300, accessible to all fans at the venue.

It's the first iteration of the Bluebird beyond its original location in a retail area of Nashville. Since opening in June 1982, the venue has been the place where numerous artists were discovered. Garth Brooks, for one, received a recording contract after a 1988 performance there after having been turned down by the same label a week earlier. Big Machine Records offered a 14-year-old Swift a record deal there after seeing her perform at the 2002 Academy of Country Music Nightclub of the Year.

Although The Bluebird East, as the new club will be called, will likely retain its anonymous interior d cor, designed to keep the focus on the music. Robert's - home to house band Brazilbilly led by S o Paulo native JesseLee Jones - will mirror the original's Lower Broadway checkerboard floors, neon signs, portraits, and boot display, underscoring the fact that, yes, it actually does sell western clothes and boots.

The Bluebird Cafe was acquired by Nashville Songwriters Association International in 2008. Jones and his wife, Emily Ann, own Robert's, having bought the seven-year-old club in 1999.

Bluebird GM Erika Willam Nichols said in a statement that, although the club had rejected other offers for expansion, This was exactly the right team to join.
