Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice Presents Signature Series Concert Featuring special guest trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, students and faculty from the institute will perform songs from the upcoming book New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers.

Berklees Signature Series continues as students and faculty from the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice perform songs from the forthcoming book New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers and album New Standards, Vol. One. The concert will take place on Wednesday, December 8, at 8:00 p.m. at the Red Room at Cafe 939.

This performance will showcase students from the institute performing alongside acclaimed faculty members such as Grammy Award-winning drummer and producer Terri Lyne Carrington, bassist and composer Linda May Han Oh, pianist and composer Kris Davis, and special guest trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. The institutes mission is to recruit, teach, mentor, and advocate for musicians seeking to study jazz, with gender justice and racial justice as its guiding principles. Founded by Carrington, who also serves as the artistic director, the institute seeks to engage in making an important and long-lasting cultural shift in jazz and other music communities.

This performance will be an incredible showcase of the music that shaped and influenced the principles of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, which will be explored further in the upcoming book and album, New Standards, said Carrington. The concert will feature our institute's student, faculty, and guest artists in a tremendous celebration of known and unknown women composers of jazz.

The Red Room at Cafe 939 is located at 939 Boylston Street, Boston. Admission is $10 in advance, $12 on the day of the show, and $5 with a Berklee ID. Tickets are available online and at the Berklee Performance Center box office. This is a seated event.

Berklees Live Event Attendance Policy Any member of the public attending a live, ticketed event at Berklee will be required to provide a government-issued photo identification and one of the following: proof of full vaccination (two weeks after receiving a single-shot vaccine or the second dose of a two-shot vaccine); proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the event; or a rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of the event.

Attendees may provide these documents in physical/paper form, by photocopy, or a photo on a phone as long as all information is clearly visible and readable. Photos of at-home tests must be time-stamped. Masks will be required indoors, regardless of vaccination or negative test status. Attendees must bring their own masks and wear them over the nose and mouth.
