With just three weeks to go until kick-off of the world's biggest sporting event, SBS has today announced its live match broadcast schedule for the FIFA World Cup 2026 . Featuring 104 matches across 16 cities in three countries, and the first ever final halftime show, the tournament will be the largest in the competition's history.
From breakfast kick-offs to long lunch matchups, the FIFA World Cup 2026 is shaping up as one of the most accessible tournaments for Australian fans in recent memory, with 69% of all live matches airing between 6.00am and 4.30pm (AEST).
For those who miss the live coverage, all 104 matches will be freely available to catch up in full via SBS On Demand, plus there's 3-minute highlights, 12-minute extended highlights and 30-minute mini matches.
Hosted by respected football presenters Niav Owens and Claudio Fabiano, SBS's coverage will begin on Friday 12 June with the Opening Ceremony from the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, followed by the first match between co-host nation Mexico and South Africa.
Under head coach Tony Popovic, the Socceroos head to the FIFA World Cup 2026 aiming to continue Australia's strong recent record on the world stage. Australia will open their tournament against T rkiye, with coverage from 1.00pm (AEST) on Sunday 14 June across SBS and SBS On Demand.
SBS's coverage of Australia's Group D campaign will also see the Socceroos face co-host nation USA from 4.00am (AEST) on Saturday 20 June, before taking on Paraguay from 11.00am (AEST) on Friday 26 June. All three matches will feature exclusive on-the-ground commentary from David Basheer and two-time FIFA World Cup Socceroo, Luke Wilkshire.
Joining the previously announced SBS commentary team headliners Harry Kewell and Lydia Williams are ex-FIFA World Cup stars and Socceroos favourites, Tommy Oar and Andrew Redmayne, as well as former AC Milan midfielder and Ghana star Kevin-Prince Boateng, and ex-Matilda and football executive Sarah Walsh. Complementing our broadcast team will be international football presenter Adriano Del Monte, plus football content creators Adamo De Nigris, Kat Sasso and Sam Jurman, and SBS presenters Darren Mara, Breanna Holden and Adrian Arciuli.
SBS will bring Australians the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show live and exclusive from New York New Jersey Stadium on Monday 20 July (AEST), as global music icons Madonna, Shakira and BTS take to the world's biggest sporting stage. Curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay, the landmark performance will combine football, music and social impact in a historic moment for the tournament, supporting the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund and featuring appearances by beloved characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
In addition to broadcasting all 104 matches, SBS will deliver extensive programming and coverage across its network to keep Australians up to date with all the latest World Cup news, results and analysis. Some highlights include:
The FIFA World Cup Hub on SBS On Demand is where Australians can live stream all 104 matches and catch up on match replays, highlights, extended highlights, mini matches, short-form video extras and more to enjoy anytime and anywhere.
For the first time, SBS Sport will launch Watch-Along Live Streams on TikTok for select FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, including Australia v T rkiye on 14 June and Paraguay v Australia on 26 June. Created as a dynamic second-screen viewing experience, the Watch-Alongs will feature live coverage of the opening 10 minutes of select matches, combined with real-time fan interaction, creator-led commentary, and the energy of football culture on TikTok.
The Football Briefing The SBS commentary team, led by David Basheer and Luke Wilkshire alongside special guests, will deliver a daily vodcast-style football briefing sharing insights, reactions and updates from on the ground at the FIFA World Cup, following the Socceroos' tournament journey. The show will be hosted from informal locations near team camps, training facilities and match venues. Audiences will be able to access the show via SBS On Demand or SBS Sport YouTube.
The SBS Sport website FIFA World Cup event page will provide the latest highlights, match schedules, news and analysis, plus an interactive match centre will be released closer to the World Cup kick off to provide audiences with a complementary second screen companion.
Hyundai, Hisense, Macca's, Rexona, bet365, Commonwealth Bank and Youi will support the FIFA World Cup 2026 as SBS official broadcast partners.
Follow SBS Sport across YouTube, TikTok, X, Instagram and Facebook for all the latest from the FIFA World Cup 2026 .
