FOX MLB Leads Live-Event Categories; ESPN Is Tops Overall at 47th Annual Sports Emmy Awards

ESPN garnered 10 awards; NBC's Sunday Night Football received the Outstanding Live Sports Series Award

FOX Sports' MLB coverage came up big at the 47th Annual Sports Emmy Awards on Tuesday night, taking home statues in three of the four marquee live-event categories, as well as Outstanding Technical Team: Sports Event and Outstanding Sports Audio/Sound: Live Event. Overall, FOX's nine wins trailed only ESPN, which led all networks with 10 Emmys. Other solid showings on the night included CBS Sports and WBD (TNT Sports and HBO Max) with five each, along with NBC Sports/Peacock and Prime Video Sports/Amazon MGM Studios with three apiece.

The ceremony, hosted by Roy Wood Jr., took place in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City. The show streamed live on YouTube and is available to watch at YouTube.com/@TheEmmys.

FOX's coverage on the diamond dominated the night: FOX MLB: World Series won for Outstanding Live Sports Special: Championship Event and Outstanding Technical Team: Sports Event. The broadcaster also won Outstanding Live Sports Special: Non-Championship Event for the 95th All-Star Game, Outstanding Sports Playoff Coverage for the American League Playoffs, and Outstanding Sports Audio/Sound: Live Event for FOX MLB.

ESPN remained a dominant force in the studio and storytelling categories. NFL Live was named Outstanding Sports Studio Show: Daily, and College GameDay took the weekly honor. E60 was a double winner, claiming Outstanding Edited Sports Series: Hosted and, for Save: The Katie Meyer Story, Outstanding Sports Journalism. ESPN also won Outstanding Edited Sports Special for Not So Fast, My Friend: A Lee Corso Special.

CBS Sports had a solid night, sharing the Outstanding Sports Studio Show: Limited Run honor with TNT Sports for Road to the Final Four. Additionally, the Outstanding Studio or Production Design/Art Direction: Sports award went to The NFL Today's The Virtual Time Machine. Other wins included Outstanding Sports Feature: Short Form for Behan Strong from NCAA March Madness and Outstanding Sports Camera Work: Short Form for The Harder Choice from The 126th Army-Navy Game.

The Warner Bros. Discovery family - TNT Sports and HBO Max - earned five Emmys, including the Outstanding Sports Studio Show: Limited Run honor shared with CBS for Road to the Final Four. HBO Max also swept several craft categories: Outstanding Sports Editing: Long Form for Celtics City, Outstanding Sports Writing: Long Form for In Season with the NFC East from Hard Knocks, and Outstanding Sports Audio/Sound: Post-Produced for Hard Knocks' Training Camp With the Buffalo Bills.

NBC's Sunday Night Football took home the coveted Outstanding Live Sports Series trophy, and the NBA on NBC & Peacock launch earned Outstanding Sports Graphic Design: Event/Show - an early nod to a property that has been a central focus across the industry this season.

Prime Video Sports had its biggest night to date, winning three awards: Outstanding Technical Team: Sports Studio for NBA on Prime Video, Outstanding Interactive Experience: Sports for Fan Optionality on Prime Video, and Outstanding Sports Documentary Series for Cocaine Quarterback: Signal-Caller for the Cartel (produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Unrealistic Ideas).

On the technology and innovation front, the George Wensel Technical Achievement Award went to MLB's UmpCam AR: Strike Zone System (in collaboration with FOX Sports, Bolt6, and Virtual Eye) and to Red Bull Media House's World of Red Bull in Apple Immersive won Outstanding Digital Innovation: Sports.

Among other multi-Emmy winners was the NFL, which won eight awards for its work across NFL Films, NFL Network, NFL Marketing and Mundo NFL. NFL Films earned five of those wins, including Netflix's Quarterback (a co-production with NFL Films, Omaha Productions, and 2PM Productions) for Outstanding Sports Documentary Series: Serialized and the streamer's America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys (

Skydance Sports | NFL Films | Stardust Frames Productions | Netflix) for Outstanding Sports Open/Tease.

Among the on-air honors, TNT and CBS's Ernie Johnson won Outstanding Sports Personality: Studio Host, FOX's Alex Rodriguez took Studio Analyst, and NBC's Mike Tirico was named Outstanding Sports Personality: Play-By-Play. FOX's Greg Olsen won Event Analyst, CBS's Tracy Wolfson took Sideline Reporter, ESPN's Katie George was recognized as Emerging On-Air Talent, and Outstanding Sports On-Air Personality in Spanish went to Telemundo's Miguel Gurwitz.

Also claiming honors were NHL Productions (Edited Sports Event Coverage), NASCAR Studios (Music Direction), NBA Entertainment (Promotional Announcement), NFL/72andSunny (Public Service), ESL FACEIT Group (Esports), Olympics.com (Documentary: Long), and Mundo NFL (Feature Story in Spanish).

Steve Bornstein, former CEO of NFL Network, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to sports media. The award was presented by Mark Shapiro, president/CEO, TKO Group Holdings.

The Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the NATAS Foundation to a student pursuing a career in sports television, was presented to Thomas Gamba, a student at Chaminade High School in Garden City, NY. The scholarship honors sportscaster Jim McKay (1921-2008) and was established in 2009, funded by ABC/ESPN, CBS, FOX, HBO, and NBC.

For the fifth year, Coca-Cola awarded a $40,000 HBCU Sports Production Grant at the event. Students from Morehouse College took first place, earning a $25,000 grant. Second place went to Florida A&M University; third place, to Delaware State University.
