With the number of connected devices expected to exceed 50 billion by 2020, cities everywhere are ramping up, embracing innovation and the tech spirit. Under the leadership of New York Citys Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Minerva Tantoco, the Mayors Office of Technology and Innovation is working toward Mayor de Blasios vision of making New York City the most innovative, tech-friendly and equitable big city in the world. In her keynote address at CE Week 2016, New York Citys most prominent consumer technology event, Tantoco will address what it means to be a smart city, share what New York City has on its tech docket, and explain why the next wave of innovation will demand technology and government partnerships.
Simply put, a smart city must also be an equitable city, said Minerva Tantoco, Chief Technology Officer of New York City. As technologists in the digital age, we have the opportunity and responsibility to humanize tech, to harness its power to tackle the toughest urban challenges, reduce inequality and democratize society at scale.
As CTO, Tantoco is responsible for the development and implementation of a coordinated citywide strategy on technology and innovation and encouraging collaboration across agencies and with the wider New York City technology ecosystem.
Tantoco added, New York City is a great example of how government and industry can work toward that goal. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to address the ways that innovations in Internet of Things can be used for the public good.
Technology is complicated enough, and in order for companies to succeed, they need to work hand-in-hand with government, said Eric Schwartz, President/CRO - Consumer Technology, NAPCO Media. Ms. Tantocos enthusiasm is contagious and her ideas on his topic are bold. No technology company should miss this keynote session.
With 30 years in technology, Ms. Tantoco started her first software company in 1985, and recently served as CTO of global financial services firm UBS and Merrill Lynch. She is a strong advocate for encouraging more women to become involved with technology, and believes that technology can be used to spread knowledge and improve education, especially in underserved communities, and that artificial intelligence applied to the massively growing amount of systems, data, and interconnections offers capabilities of which we have yet to dream.
Ms. Tantocos keynote address, aptly titled Welcome to NYC Where Tech Means Business, will take place from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. on June 23rd at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City (125 W. 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues, 2nd floor conference room).
