Mark Linsey named as new BBC Studios director

Mark Linsey has been named as the new BBC Studios director.

The former controller of entertainment commissioning has been acting director of BBC Television since October last year.

He will replace the outgoing Peter Salmon, who is departing to become chief creative officer at the Endemol Shine Group.

Linsey (pictured) said, I am tremendously excited to be leading BBC Studios at such an important stage in its evolution. Our producers are renowned for delivering drama, comedy, entertainment and factual of the highest quality and I know I am going to enjoy working with such talented teams.

Programme making is the very heart of the BBC and, in BBC Studios, we have a world class operation. I am delighted to be a part of it.

Linsey spent over 20 years in TV production before joining the BBC, including roles at Hat Trick Productions, Tiger Aspect, LWT and Central.

In his time as controller of entertainment commissioning, he was responsible for programmes such as Strictly Come Dancing, The Apprentice and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Road Show.

Charlotte Moore, who was appointed as BBC channels and iPlayer controller in January, will be responsible for BBC television pending the announcement in the next few weeks of a new structure, aimed at simplifying the BBC. Linsey will work with the Studios teams ahead of the launch of the new division on 29 April.
