Spotify Expands Secret Genius With the Launch of Studios

Prolific singer-songwriters Meghan Trainor, Jhen Aiko and Charli XCX to personally select up-and-coming songwriters and producers to utilize recording studios

On the heels of its inaugural Secret Genius Awards, honoring creative forces behind the year's biggest hits, Spotify continues its mission to celebrate the songwriting and producing community with the official launch of Secret Genius Studios. In honor of Women's History Month, Spotify has selected three prolific female songwriters to curate the studios for the next three months - Meghan Trainor for April, Jhen Aiko for May and Charli XCX for June. Each artist will hand-pick emerging producers and songwriters to utilize the recording studios, providing them with a space to continue to create, with more artists to come later this year.

Secret Genius Studios, located in Los Angeles, Nashville, Atlanta and London, are recording studio rooms intended to offer up-and-coming songwriters access to the latest equipment and time with a seasoned engineer, where anyone can apply via the online portal SecretGeniusStudios.com and receive session time, free of charge.

Meghan Trainor, Grammy-Award winning singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, emerged with her 2014 breakout single All About That Bass and disrupted contemporary music with nostalgic pop beats and powerhouse vocals that delivered a worldwide anthem for female empowerment. Trainor cemented her rising status as one of the most prominent artists in popular music by charting seven multi-platinum singles, releasing two platinum albums, selling out three headline tours and writing multi-platinum hits for top artists. After wrapping up her first season as a panelist on FOX's hit series THE FOUR: Battle for Stardom, Trainor released her first single No Excuses from her highly-anticipated 2018 album.

I'm really excited to work with Spotify and be a part of this program! Trainor says. As a songwriter, my favorite thing is to help young artists figure out what they want to say through their songs. We all have something to say, we are just lucky enough to get to sing it!

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Jhen Aiko made history when Sail Out, her phenomenal #1 debut EP of 2013, became the biggest-selling EP in Def Jam history. The EP's success was propelled by her sizzling BET Award-winning and Grammy-nominated #1 platinum crossover hit The Worst. Over the course of her career, Jhen has collaborated with top artists including Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Drake, and more. Jhen 's most recent album, TRIP, was released September 2017, to a #1 Billboard R&B chart debut. The two lead singles off the album, While We're Young and Sativa, are now both RIAA Gold certified.

Charli XCX has earned critical acclaim across the globe and her refreshing entrepreneurial spirit has seen her carve her own lane on the global pop circuit. Charli is the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter behind the multi-platinum and global No.1's Fancy and I Love It and the UK Top 10's Boom Clap. Last year, Charli released her groundbreaking mixtapes Number 1 Angel and Pop 2 as well as her standout summer anthem Boys. Charli, who will be supporting Taylor Swift on her upcoming Reputation stadium tour, has won 2 x Sesac Songwriter of the Year Awards, 2 x NME Awards, 2 x Billboard Awards &1 x YouTube Music Award over her career alongside an array of nominations at the Grammy's, BRIT Awards and MTV EMA's.

I'm so down to work with Spotify on their Secret Genius project, Charli XCX explains. My most favourite thing about what I do is collaboration, particularly in the studio, so getting a chance to offer spaces for fellow creatives to work and record feels cool and special. I like making creative hubs, whether that's in writing camps i set up or literally in my own house. It feels good to be around people who wanna make music and experiment. It's gonna be a great project.
