Three Berklee Alumni Win Spots on The Voice

The popular NBC series The Voice kicked off its 17th season this fall, and the initial blind audition rounds included three Berklee alumni: singer-songwriters Mendeleyev Allan-Blitz B.M. '16, Brooke Stephenson B.M. 14, and Ricky Duran B.M. '11.

California native Allan-Blitz, whose full name is Mendeleyev Galileo Einstein Pythagoras Darwin Euclid Leonardo Allan-Blitz, impressed the judges with a cover of Bob Dylan's Girl from the North Country. Judge Kelly Clarkson gushed over Mendeleyevs sound, comparing his voice to a glass of pinot noir. He chose John Legend for his coach. Duran, who grew up not far from Berklee in Worcester, Massachusetts, performed a soulful rendition of Leon Bridges's River. He joined Blake Sheltons team. Stephenson, who said she considers herself an Americana singer, performed Let Him Fly by the Dixie Chicks and Patty Griffin. An alumna of the Berklee a cappella group Pitch Slapped, Stephenson chose Clarkson for her coach.

Other Berklee students and alumni have competed on past seasons of The Voice, including Erika Zade, Courtney Harrell, and recent graduate Jackie Foster B.M. '18. Stephenson, Duran, and Mendeleyev will compete in the show's battle rounds, which begin on October 14.
