Combines powerful sequencer with classic drum machine samples

Rapid Flow's latest release puts their sequencing expertise to work in a powerful new virtual instrument that focuses entirely on drums. Built around a library of over 1000 classic drum machine samples, drumGRID supports patterns up to 128 steps long, and boasts Euclidean sequencing, per-step sound shaping and a fully featured sampler on every lane.

The instrument's sound library has been recorded by Rapid Flow themselves using high-end gear from the likes of API, SSL, Neve and Rupert Neve Designs, and captures an array of sought-after drum machines. Samples from the MFB Tanzb r, Vermona DRM1, Cwejman BLD, Nord Drum 3P, 8RAW8 and 606 are already present, and there are more on the way, with content from the TR-909, Elektron Analog Rytm MKII and Erica Synths Perkons set to join the line-up in a future update.

Key Features

128-Step Sequencer With Euclidean Mode & Per-Step Shaping

Patterns run up to 128 steps, in straight, triplet or dotted timing, with a Euclidean mode sitting right beside the step grid alongside probability. Steps can be clicked in, step-recorded from a MIDI keyboard, or played live with quantised or loose timing. Scenes switch by key, MIDI note or DAW automation. Each step carries its own velocity, pan, shift and probability parameters, along with its own filter, resonance, bit rate and stretch - values can be drawn in lanes and edited across several steps and tracks at once.

Seven Shuffles & Independent Per-Track Groove

Alongside accurate timing, drumGRID includes seven shuffle modes inspired by classic drum machines - they can be applied to the whole kit or individual tracks. A per-track time shift of 64ms sits next to a master shift for nudging the whole kit against the DAW, and repeats can be set with their own interval, shape and curve - great for rolling hi-hats and creating other classic drum-machine fills.

A Full-Featured Sampler on Every Lane

Every lane is a sampler in its own right, holding up to eight samples with independent pitch, fades, bit depth, sample rate, filter and stretch controls. Layer, Random, Cycle, Velocity and Morph play modes sit alongside amp and filter ADSR envelopes with adjustable curves, and choke groups let one sound cut another - a closed hi-hat cutting a ringing open hi-hat, for example.

Built to Sit Inside Your Own Mix

drumGRID carries no onboard compression or EQ, so it stays out of the way of your own plugins. Multi-outs are available, any tracks can share one output, and your own samples can be loaded in alongside the library with a per-project shortlist. Presets are split into Factory, User and Favourites, and the plug-in offers both Light and Dark themes along with a scalable GUI.

Compatibility drumGRID is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.13.6 and later. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
