How to #DreamReal with Logan Dodds

Machu Picchu, Peru-situated high in the Andes just outside Cusco. The site serves as a powerful reminder to the ancient Incan Empire at its pinnacle of dominance. And in modern days, it's served as a hotspot for travelers looking to test their hiking prowess and immerse themselves in Peruvian culture.

The Dodds family cherry-picked the destination years ago as one of many stops on their world travel itinerary. The physical activities, the views, the history-Machu Picchu had it all for the energetic, adventurous family.

However, the Incan citadel never got off checked off the list. In an unfortunate turn of events, their father passed away unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm and the family immediately returned home to New Zealand.

A few years have passed now, and Logan, the son, still hasn't been able to shake the thought of achieving this travel goal. So when he heard about GoPro's #DreamReal campaign, he set into action. Fast forward several months, and he, his sister and mother just returned from an epic Peruvian adventure scaling Machu Picchu.

Logan says the trip held a few unexpected hurdles, but they overcame them and, if anything, it made it all worth it. The following are a few of Logan's favorite moments captured and the settings he was using on the new HERO5 Black.

At right: After the mammoth week we had leading up to this point, it was a massive accomplishment and relief to stand overlooking Machu Picchu. The 4 a.m. hike start was well worth it. This was taken shortly before the fog and rain swept in and clouded the visibility.

Right: Words struggle to explain what I was feeling at this point. This was near the summit of the three-day hike, and we just arrived to unreal snowcapped mountains and massive glaciers. We even witnessed an avalanche right in front of us, which was something I'll never forget.
