Dongqian Lake International Sculpture Design Competition launched

The launching ceremony of China Dongqian Lake International Sculpture Design Competition as well as the Southern Song Dynasty Stone Carvings International Forum was held on December 3. Sponsored by Dongqian Lake Administration Committee and Ningbo Sculpture Art Academy and hosted by Ningbo Luotong Culture Media Co. Ltd., the competition aims to demonstrate the historical changes of the Dongqian Lake, and record the cultural signs of the lake with the sculptures.

As is known, the organizing committee of the competition will organize the local cultural personnel to visit the Dongqian Lake and its surrounding area, have discussions, sort out the historical changes and the development of the modern tourist leisure culture, so that the artists can create the sculptures that can display local styles. It is estimated that in July, the urban sculpture display will be held and the distinguished works will be displayed around the city, and the citizens will vote for the sculptures that can represent the Dongqian Lake culture.

The competition, themed on "cultural cradle and urban saloon", will take the forms of open collection and special invitation. All the works from home and abroad will be collected and assessed. By providing such a platform for the international sculpture works, the competition will be an occasion of perfect combination of art and city, history and fashion, internationalization and nature.

According to Wang Zhong, Dean of the Urban Design College of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Dongqian Lake is unique in its natural resources, and the Southern Song Dynasty Stone Carvings Park is at the international level both in its scale and historical values. To relate the history and culture with the modern life, the sculptures should tell good stories and look nice, which can arouse peoples emotion for the beautiful Dongqian Lake. He himself is also considering composing a sculpture with the theme of "appreciating Dongqian Lake", he told the reporter.

As a carrier for cultural environment and public landscape, sculpture park has been well received. According to Wang Zhong, the Dongqian Lake area can be viewed as a big park and the sculptures should be well placed.

The sculptures can be both realistic and abstract, said Zhang Hao, Deputy Director of the Administration Committee of the Dongqian Lake Tourist Resort. All the awarded works will be placed along the lake and become part of the landscape.
