Rocky Mount Mills to Host Derby Day at the Mills

The Boys & Girls Club of the Tar River Region are hosting Derby Day at the Mills!

The local Boys & Girls Clubs will host the inaugural Run for the Roses, Derby Day at The Mills from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday, May 5th on Rocky Mount Mills' campus.

Derby Day will host a private VIP event that will give you the full Kentucky Derby experience; from fancy hats and seersucker suits to the signature mint julep cocktail. Tickets include:

Ron Green, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region, and Rocky Mount Mills want to support young people that attend the local Boys & Girls Clubs and at the same time offer something fresh to the community. Ron Green adds Derby Day will give people a chance to dress like theyre at the horse race, which is dubbed The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.

One of our taglines is Brush off your best duds and put on your fancy hats, Green said. We know everyone is waiting for a time when they can wear their spring or summer clothes. We want to give the ladies a chance to wear their fancy hats and the guys dress up in their seersucker and linen suits.

There will also be a public event in conjunction with the VIP event encouraging families to have their own version of a derby day experience. The public event is sure to be fun for the whole family. The Martin County Ramblers be a live with a special seated section for the VIP guests. Boys & Girls Club members will also participate and showcase their talents through stage performances throughout the day. The beer garden will have the races broadcast on the televisions so that guest can keep up with the races in real time.

The Jaycees will be sponsoring a FREE Kiddy Korral where the kids can enjoy bounce houses, stick pony races, horse shoe pitching, face painting, pony rides and so much more.
