RT 1916 Content and Events over Easter Weekend Easter Weekend is a central part of RT 1916 RT 's ambitious programme of content and events across television, radio, mobile and online which invites people, at home and throughout the world, to watch, listen and take part as they commemorate and celebrate, debate and analyse the centenary of the 1916 Rising.

From major television drama, groundbreaking documentary and a slate of young people's programmes to online exhibitions through RT Archives, a dedicated RT 1916 website and RT Player Hub and curated on-street events, RT , through RT 1916 is playing a central role in the public commemoration of Easter 1916 and the celebration of the last 100 years of Irish life.

RT 1916: Easter Weekend Highlights

RT will be providing extensive coverage of the official State Commemorations of the 1916 Rising, offering audiences, both at home and abroad, a range of special programmes and detailed news coverage of the ceremonies marking the centenary.

Easter Saturday 26th March

State Commemoration of the 1916 Rising: Garden of Remembrance

Easter Sunday 27th March

State Commemoration of the 1916 Rising (Parade and other official ceremonies)

Live coverage (RT One 0930 1430) of the official parade and the GPO ceremonies, including coverage of wreath-laying events at Kilmainham Gaol and Glasnevin Cemetery. This will be the biggest broadcast deployment for a State event since the visits of Queen Elizabeth and President Obama in 2011.

A Nation's Voice, Collins Barracks

Live coverage (Live RT One 1430 - 1530, RT Radio 1 LW) presented by Miriam O'Callaghan as 1,100 singers will join the RT National Symphony Orchestra for A Nation's Voice, an open-air free concert at Collins Barracks presented by the Arts Council and RT , in association with the National Museum of Ireland, the Association of Irish Choirs and Music Generation. Conducted by David Brophy, A Nation's Voice will include the world premi re of One Hundred Years a Nation, a major new orchestral and choral work commissioned for the occasion by RT from composer, Shaun Davey with text by writer, Paul Muldoon.

Among other television highlights on Easter Sunday are 16 Letters, presented by Ryan Tubridy (RT One, 1900) and Children of The Revolution, presented by Joe Duffy (RT One, 2135)

Easter Monday 28th March

RT Reflecting the Rising in partnership with Ireland 2016

RT Reflecting the Rising in partnership with Ireland 2016 is the biggest public history and cultural event ever staged in Ireland and is a free family event. From 11am 6pm Dublin city centre, north and south, will be transformed in four zones as people are invited to reimagine and relive the Dublin and Ireland of 100 years ago. In landmark buildings across the city, visitors will experience a massive variety of talks and exhibitions, live musical and theatrical performances, walking tours, special films, interactive activities and family entertainment.

Zone 1: St Stephen's Green & Earlsfort Terrace

-Music and circus on the bandstand in St. Stephen's Green across the day, including Booka Brass Band, Dublin Gospel Choir and Dublin Circus Project

-Poetry readings and dramatic performances in the Summer House on the pond

-Food and craft fair at St. Stephen's Green South

Zone 2: Merrion Square & Lower Fitzwilliam Street

- -Main Stage Lower Fitzwilliam Street: Lisa O'Neill, K la, Mick Flannery, The Academic & more

-Exhibition of vintage cars, motorbikes, buses and a steam engine at Merrion Square South

-Children's Play Day in Merrion Square Park with RT jr's Twig n and Reuben live, music from The Garda Band and The Henry Girls, face-painting, baby rave and much more.

Zone 3 O'Connell Street

-Main Stage on O'Connell Street with Sharon Shannon, The High Kings, The Celtic Tenors, Eleanor Shanley, Dan , C r Ch l Aodha and others

-Photographic and installation exhibitions about 1916

-Sackville Street Stage with RT 's Joe Duffy broadcasting live on RT Radio 1 from 1.30pm

-Odhr n Casaide and friends on the Sackville Stage from 3.30pm onwards.

Zone 4 Smithfield Square & the Fruit Market area

-Vintage Tram stage with Aonghus McAnally hosting a variety of performances.

-Military Exhibition and the Dublin Fire Briagade Band

-A magical carousel, children's storytelling, City Public Libraries' Learning Buses

-The Fruit Market comes alive with re-enactments and other activities.

Centenary

Broadcast live from Bord G is Energy Theatre on RT One (2135) Centenary is a special television event that will tell the story of modern Ireland through music, dance and song as some of Ireland's best known singers, musicians and performers come together for a special one-off cultural celebration, and the culmination of Ireland 2016 and RT s programme of events over the Easter weekend to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

Artists confirmed include Imelda May, Jack L, Gavin James, The High Kings, Colm Wilkinson, Danny O'Reilly, Iarla Lion ird, Sharon Shannon, D nal Lunny, John Sheahan, Celine Byrne, and Seo Linn.
