Bright Prospects for Ningbo-Hefei Science and Technology Cooperation

The successful launch of the first experimental quantum communication satellite Mozi places Hefei at the frontiers of quantum information science worldwide. The Ningbonese have made great contributions in this endeavor.

The chief scientist of the project, Professor Zhang Jianwei is a Ningbonese. A witty remark is given that the quantum leap is made possible by Ningbonese's wisdom, science and education institutions of Hefei and a sound national decision.

As the project of upgrading development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt marched into Hefei on November 27, Hefei's comprehensive strength in science and education was gradually revealed. Numerous important firsts have been made by Hefei, such as the first microcomputer of China and the first air-conditioner.

Chen Wei, deputy director of Hefei Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology and Yuan Cheng, chief engineer are both Ningbonese. They are highly proud of Hefei's comprehensive strength in science and education, saying, Heifei is an important city in National Important Project on Science. Concerning the strength in science and education, it just comes after Beijing and Shanghai with 36 scientific research and technology development platforms, 1,056 hi-tech companies and a number of colleges and universities and national laboratories.

Hefei is now focusing on science about energy, information, material and environment to build a Comprehensive National Science Center. In the later half of 2016, Hefei will promote the construction of national laboratory for quantum information, the earth-space integrated information network, Microelectronics R&D Center, Magnetic Confinement Fusion Energy R&D Center, Hefei Ion Medical Center, Intelligent Energy Innovation Center and Megagene Center.

However, Chen Wei also noticed, In terms of private economy, Hefei is less developed than Ningbo and if science and technology achievement cannot be materialized, all efforts would go down the drain. He said, I hope farsighted Ningbonese businesspeople can help bring out more science and technology cooperation projects with Heifei so that more research results can be materialized and their power fully displayed.

Innovation is the main driving force behind development. In order to bring together the essential elements of innovation, Hefei has set up 25 academician workstations, with 81 academicians currently working in Hefei, recruited 260 high-caliber talents worldwide and 195 talents through Thousand Talents Program. There have been over 1,000 national hi-tech companies in Hefei with R&D personnel of 23,000.

Chen Wei believes that innovation-driven development is not only a national strategy but also the fundamental approach to promote the development of emerging industries, the upgrading of industrial structure and the core competitiveness of Hefei and Ningbo.

Since May of 2015, Hefei-Ningbo Sea-Rail Combined transportation have been put into practice, exporting Hefei-made products like refrigerators, washing machines and automobiles etc. to many foreign countries in Southeast Asia, Europe, America and Africa.
