Sobatech Group Uses Blackmagic Design for Remote Production of F4 Spanish Championship and Eurocup-3

Sobatech Group is producing live coverage of the F4 Spanish Championship and Eurocup-3 using a remote production workflow built around Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 cameras and the ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K live production switcher. The series are produced for promoter and media rights holder EPIC Championships, with The Kilite Agency overseeing marketing services and commissioning Sobatech for production and distribution. Races take place at circuits in Spain and across Europe.

Sobatech has centralized operations at its hub in Banyoles, sending only camera operators, a technician, and a producer to each circuit. Race days can last up to 10 consecutive hours.

Fourteen URSA Broadcast G2 cameras are positioned around each circuit, covering up to seven kilometers of track. Each camera connects to a 4G router that establishes a VPN with Banyoles, enabling remote camera, tally, and lens control. Camera feeds are encoded in H.265 and transmitted over contribution systems based on the Haivision SST protocol, aggregating 4G and 5G connections from multiple carriers along with Starlink.

In Banyoles, an ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K, with an ATEM 2 M/E Advanced Panel 40 for hardware control, manages cameras, graphics, replays, playout, and backgrounds. The system handles around 34 inputs without external converters. Three Blackmagic Videohub 40 40 12G routers handle signal distribution and recording. Graphics are generated by onsite servers controlled remotely from Madrid, with two fill and key pairs fed into the switcher.

A full graphics feed goes to DAZN Portugal, REDTV in the U.S. and Canada, YouTube, Twitch, and destinations in South America, while the clean feed is recorded for archive and social media content. For DAZN Spain and DAZN UK, Sobatech creates dedicated unilateral feeds in two additional control rooms, adding local commentary, commentator footage, and pit lane interviews.

One HyperDeck Extreme 8K HDR broadcast deck uses its four-channel recording to capture the wall feed, clean feed, and English and Spanish versions. A second records an H.265 version of the clean feed for external editors. Recordings are written directly to a Blackmagic Cloud Store Max 24TB, so files can be accessed while recording is in progress.

We only send camera operators, a technician and producer to a circuit, says Xavier Soler, Founder and CEO, Sobatech. This reduces our logistical footprint and production costs by 30 percent in Spain and up to 60 percent in the rest of Europe.

We needed reliable transmission between the track and control room, alongside a flexible setup capable of handling and synchronizing around 34 inputs without external converters, says Soler. The production also had to support a multi output workflow, tailoring each feed to the specific editorial needs of each broadcaster.

The return feed allows operators to monitor the program output, although with about 1.5 seconds of latency, they are required to anticipate the action and make decisions independently, says Soler.

We can generate multiviews, handle signals with different frame rates, and synchronize them when necessary, reducing the need for external conversions, hardware and cabling, says Soler.
