The Indie Karoo Film Festival announced its official selection for 2016 with films to be screened in the Karoo from 1 to 3 July in Prince Albert.

Founded in 2015, the Indie Karoo Film Festival creates a platform for independent filmmakers and storytellers of feature, documentary, experimental and short films, and enables local audiences to discover some of South Africas emerging talent.

The film selection for this year s event includes more than 40 films from South Africa, as well as from across the continent and beyond. With a focus on South African films and filmmakers, SA director Gavin Hood will be attending the festival and hosting a Q&A after the screening of his latest film, Eye in the Sky.

Other guests in attendance will include festival judges Gerard Rudolf, actor and poet, film director Jozua Malherbe, and award winning actress Rolanda Marais.

The festival also includes award-winning documentaries such as The Boers at the End of the World, the documentary that uncovers the life of the 100 year old Afrikaans community found in Patagonia Argentina, as well as the recent SAFTA winner The Dream of Shahrazad, an intriguing film that weaves together music, politics and storytelling to explore recent social and political events in Egypt, Turkey and Lebanon through the metaphor of the tale of The 1001 Nights.

The Indie Karoo Film Festival also provides the rare opportunity to view short films on the big screen, and titles to look out for include How We Move, I Made a Film Youll Never See, the Nigerian short Rahman, and the innovative short film Skewe Reenboog.

One of the highlights of the festival, screened at the flagship venue The Showroom Theatre, will be the South African premiere of Twee Grade van Moord, the Afrikaans feature film produced by Barry Strick and directed by Gerrit Schoonhoven. This gripping drama sees the onscreen reunion of two of South Africa s most loved and respected actors, Sandra Prinsloo and Marius Weyers.

Patrons are encouraged to explore, discover, taste and enjoy the many attractions that Prince Albert, known as the jewel of the Karoo, has to offer.

Screenings will take place at four venues: The Showroom Theatre, the Zwartberg High, the Jans Rautenbach Schouwburg and the Sidwell Williams Centre.
