6th CBC Sports Radio Open Moved to November, Again Benefits The Helene Foundation

CBC Sports Radio staffers are ready for the 6th Annual CBC Sports Radio Open benefiting The Helene Foundation which took place at Riverwood Golf Club in Clayton on Friday, November 6, 2020.

COVID postponed but did not stop the 6th Annual CBC Sports Radio Open. The event took place at Riverwood Golf Club in Clayton on Friday, November 6, 2020. Riverwood and the Jim Allen Group served as presenting sponsors for the golf tourney which benefited The Helene Foundation.

Typically, these take place in June but due to everything going on at that time, we decided to make the call to move the tournament to November, explained 99.9 The Fan Promotions Director Mike Ewald. One of the great things about this event is that golf never stopped here in North Carolina during the pandemic. Its an outdoor activity that naturally has social distancing already in place, so it was the perfect event for us to execute. We did however shrink our field a bit to make sure we didnt have to many people on the course at once, and each golfer was given the option to have their own golf cart if the person they were playing with didnt live in their household or they wanted to be extra cautious.

The tournament began with a shotgun start at 9am after breakfast from Duck Donuts. The foursomes played 18 holes of golf, and Raleigh Beer Garden provided boxed lunches for all participants at the end.

Unfortunately, we couldnt have a wrap up lunch at the end of the tournament due to social distancing, but we did provide the boxed lunches to the golfers to take with them so they could refuel during the tourney, said Ewald.

However, the golfers did get to bid on several items throughout the day through the silent auction and raffle, with all proceeds going to benefit The Helene Foundation.

Joe Giglio from The OG and a cast of characters from SportsChannel8 The Radio Show represented CBC Sports Radio at the event. Hayes Permar from SportsChannel8 served as emcee for the day and did his show live from the clubhouse of the golf course from 10a-12p.

It was my first time putting on the event, so my nerves were through the roof to make sure it was successful, went off without a hitch and that all safety protocols were followed by everyone involved, said Ewald. Im happy to say it went perfect and everyone was happy!
