Utah Scientific to Drive Signal Routing in Globecast's New LA Facility UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL Router Will Help Globecast Expand Service Offerings and Accommodate Remote Production of Large Global Events
SALT LAKE CITY - April 12, 2023 - Utah Scientific today announced that Globecast has purchased a UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL router for its modern new facility inside Westlake Village Studios, a 21,000-square-foot broadcast facility in metropolitan Los Angeles. Globecast will make the move from its Culver City location, where it has been for more than 30 years, to further expand its service offerings and evolve operations to virtualized and cloud technologies. The UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL will allow for the massive signal input/output Globecast requires for its services.
Globecast provides agile and seamless content acquisition, management, and distribution services globally. The company has created the No. 1 global hybrid fiber and satellite network for video contribution and distribution. It delivers any type of video service - including end-to-end linear and SVOD/AVOD OTT, and cable - using CDNs and cloud-enabled media solutions. Globecast supplies content acquisition, aggregation, and distribution services to more than 250 networks.
Utah Scientific routers have been Globecast's routers of choice for decades, with a UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL router in place for the past 11 years at the company's current location. Globecast chose to buy a new UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL router based on experience with the router's reliability and because of Utah Scientific's 10-year warranty. Also, as Globecast completes its move away from SDI to a SMPTE ST 2110 IP environment, the 1056XL's hybrid capability will help with IP/SMPTE ST 2110 future-proofing. Globecast will fully change over to the new UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL router at the new Westlake Village Studios location when it opens around the end of the first quarter of 2024. Globecast will use its existing UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL router at the current location through the transition of services to the new Westlake Village facility. The Utah Scientific service team will support Globecast fully through this transition.
Westlake Village Studios is purpose-built for broadcast services and has previously been used as a television production facility, with the fundamental infrastructure - including a data center, UPS, and modern cooling - already in place. As a result, Globecast can concentrate on tailoring the facility for its precise purposes. The facility is ideal for remote production and live content integration for Globecast customers. With all of its technology and amenities, the new facility will be able to fully host broadcasts for large events, supporting major global sporting events that will be coming to Los Angeles in the next few years.
The UTAH-400 Series 2 1056XL router has 1,056 inputs and 1,056 outputs in a small, 42-RU footprint. Like all UTAH-400 Series 2 routers, the 1056XL provides a single platform for all signal formats, including those used in IP networks. Each router is based on a unique hybrid architecture, making it ideal for even the most complex signal-management environments.
Robust tools for switching and processing signals drive a complete, integrated, and flexible system for the facilities of today and the future. Utah Scientific has introduced a family of advanced modules that greatly simplifies system design, delivering a wide range of router functionality in a single frame that otherwise would require the addition of external equipment. Besides this configuration flexibility, the UTAH-400 Series 2 also offers a common set of I/O cards for any frame size - hot-swappable from the front - that dramatically reduce physical space requirements and power consumption for increased efficiency and long-term scalability.
