Mago Studio Moves AI Video Beyond Prompts with New Production-Focused Tools

New Capabilities Bring Controllable, Iterative AI Video Tools into Existing, Professional VFX and Animation Studio Pipelines

Mago Studio, the makers of the most advanced video-to-video transformation tool on the market, has announced a new update to its platform that makes AI generative content more controllable, reliable and production-ready. Rather than contend with prompts and outputs that are incompatible with VFX and animation pipelines, studios can now leverage AI video tools and add the edited video directly into their existing workflows to easily iterate on footage and deliver high-quality final renders.

Despite rapid evolution, most AI video tools are impractical for professional use, generating outputs that are difficult to control and nearly impossible to iterate on, and also require additional conversion. Today's update addresses this directly with the addition of three new features to Mago, designed specifically for professional VFX and animation studios: precision masking, bulk rendering and professional outputs.

Studios don't need more AI demos - they need tools that actually fit into how they work, said Alvaro Lamarche Toloza, co-founder and CEO of Mago. That means having control over individual elements, being able to iterate without starting over and generating outputs that can move directly into production. These updates are about making AI usable, not just impressive.

Global Timeline

With precision masking, users can make targeted edits - such as swapping backgrounds, adjusting wardrobe or refining faces - through multi-pass, iterative workflows that allow teams to refine shots progressively rather than starting over. Through the inclusion of shot-by-shot preview, Mago now supports long-form content with a focus on style or character consistency for scalable pipelines, and combined with EXR exports and 16-bit downloads, these outputs can move directly into VFX and animation workflows without additional conversion.

While most text-to-video tools are built for speed over control, Mago is purpose-built for video transformation and stylization through precise, iterative workflows. Using a proprietary architecture based on open-source video models, the platform can transform any video - including live-action footage, green screen content, animation, 3D renders and motion capture - directly on a user's desktop or browser, without any additional technical training. Production teams retain control over composition, timing and performance, while augmenting or reinterpreting the visual output.

Today's release advances Mago's mission to reduce the operational complexity of video production, letting AI save time and cost while creative teams focus on the work itself. This approach extends to Mago's enterprise strategy through the Mago Research Hub, where dedicated researchers and engineers collaborate with studio partners on proofs of concept and real production challenges. Through this program, studios receive AI tailored to their pipelines that can decrease production costs by as much as 30%, while Mago gains direct knowledge into real-world production constraints, and insights on how to solve them.

Mago has several new feature releases and announcements planned for the coming months, and will be present at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June, where the team will be available for demos and meetings at their booth.
