KDDI Makes BIGLOBE a Subsidiary

-- KDDI Corporation (KDDI) announces the conclusion on December 8, 2016 of a share transfer agreement under which it will acquire all of the shares of BIGLOBE Inc. (BIGLOBE) from the Japan Industrial Partners No. 4 Investment Project LLC , which is managed, operated, and has information provided by Japan Industrial Partners, Inc. and others. Looking ahead, KDDI plans to acquire the shares for the total amount of around 80.0 billion yen around the end of January 2017 and to make BIGLOBE a wholly owned subsidiary.

BIGLOBE operates an Internet connection service using fixed-lines. As of the end of September 30, 2016, it had over 2 million subscribers. BIGLOBE mobile services are also used by approximately 400,000 customers.

KDDI had around 38.58 million subscribers for au mobile phones, smartphones, and others as of September 30, 2016, and around 9.04 million subscribers to fixed-line telecommunication services such as the au HIKARI brand FTTH, CATV services, and others. Moreover, KDDI has recently been providing services that suit customers lifestyle scenarios outside of the telecommunications domain, such as settlement services and product sales business centered on au WALLET and au WALLET Market.

With this conversion into a subsidiary, KDDI and BIGLOBE will utilize their respective customer bases, business expertise, and so forth to expand business through synergies between the two companies, not only in the telecommunications domain, but also in non-telecommunications domains such as settlement services and product sales business.
