Deep in the Northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang, just a few hours from the Russian border, stands the largest ski facility in China, Yabuli Ski Resort. Host of the 1996 Winter Asian Games and home to the country's largest ski jumping facilities, Yabuli welcomed snowboarders from around the world for the 2016 World Championships of Snowboarding. And among the many incredible performances displayed over the course of the week, one athlete stood out above the rest: GoPro's own Jamie Anderson.
Not only did Jamie win the Big Air Championship, she backed it up two days later by winning the Slopestyle competition as well. And since the Halfpipe competition was cancelled, Jamie officially swept the women's World Championships.
Already an Olympic Gold medalist with enough X Games medals to build a skyscraper, Jamie added to her trophy room at Yabuli Ski Resort in Northeast China. Her smooth style shined in both Big Air and Slopestyle events. She kicked off her performance with a flawless Cab 720 Tailgrab in Big Air, earning her a $40K prize purse and another notch on her championship belt.
With momentum on her side, and a full bag of tricks at her disposal, Jamie returned to competition in Slopestyle just a day later. In the Finals, she threw down a 90.25-point run
Complete with a Cab 720 Tail, Switch Backside 540 Mute, and a Frontside 720 Mute. When all was said and done, silver medal winner Enni Rukajarvi (FIN) and Bronze winner Julia Marino (USA) joined Jamie on the podium.
As if we needed any reminder of how influential she is to snowboarding, Jamie did so in emphatic fashion. We only hope she has enough room in the trophy case for the titles she will continue to stack up in the future.
About the World Championships of Snowboarding
The World Championships of Snowboarding (WCS) is the pinnacle snowboarding event organized by TTR Pro Snowboarding and the World Snowboard Federation. The WCS crowns snowboarding's true World Champions in the disciplines of Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Big Air. It is a high-caliber celebration of the sport held every four years, bringing together 400 riders representing 43 WSF Member Nations, staged by alternating resort locations around the world. In 2016, Yabuli Resort, the largest winter sports resort in China, hosts the 2nd edition of the World Championships of Snowboarding.
