Carlos Saura will receive the award of honor of the Festival of film and architecture (FICARQ) The Festival will provide, by first time, special attention to immersive film production, and the momentum that the popularization of VR (Virtual reality) devices will be 360 experience in cinema. Santander will this year host the fourth edition of the International Festival of film and architecture (FICARQ), between June 28 and July 2, a schedule that is around fifty titles, a dozen conferences, exhibitions, workshops and special passes and that this year be granted one of its honorary awards, Bridge between the Arts award, the film director Carlos Saura.
So he announced it on Tuesday in Madrid, in the presentation to the media of the first step of the contest, Ana Muriel, Director of FICARQ content.
The Organizing Committee, said Muriel, based "inexhaustible creativity of a prolific career spanning film, photography, literature, theatre, dance, drawing, or painting" the bridge between the Arts award to Carlos Saura.
The presence of Carlos Saura in the FICARQ will also be used so that the director oscense can present to the public a small advancement of one of his latest projects, Renzo Piano, an architect for Santanderdocumentary film produced by Morena Films in which Saura focuses on the process of construction of the building of the Center swag, by the famous Italian architect.
The FICARQ, a festival dedicated to exploring the intersections between architectural language and film language, recognized as one of the most prominent in the international arena, will return to having a double official section, dedicated to international film production of fiction where the architectural component is a fundamental element of filmic discourse and another oriented section to explore and analyze the film production of the documentaries of architecture in its fourth edition. Fiction and documentary will compete in this section with a jury that will preside over the filmmaker and architect Fernando Colomo
The two faces of FICARQ (fiction and documentary) will also have its reflection in the corresponding informative sections, with a total of screenings that is around fifty titles.
The relationship between architecture and the fiction goes also, and that is one of the foci that FICARQ will work again this year, said Ana Muriel and his team, in the art direction and production design. FICARQ will gather this year to some key names in the sector, national and international, and will try to look for, the selection of titles that compete in official selection, those in which the work of the artistic direction, that essential ephemeral architecture, is very relevant.
In fact, one of the first confirmed guests is the American John Bell, started in the world of cinema as one of the eight specialists responsible for designing the future of Hill Valley was responsible for spatial effects in the factory of George Lucas Industrial Light & Magic, Illustrator and designer and art director and production designer in films like Jurassic Park, Antz or back to the future II, where together with the direction of the special effects in the film.
In the architectural field, FICARQ has confirmed since it will have among its panel of speakers with the Portuguese architect Francisco Aires Mateus. Born in Lisbon in 1964, he was a professor in the Graduate School of Design of Harvard University and has given several seminars and conferences in America, Europe and Asia. His Studio, founded with his brother Manuel in 1988, has received several recognitions, among them, the Architecti/Arkial Awards, in the II biennial Iberoamericana de Arquitectura, the Valmor Prize and the FAD of architecture and ephemeral interventions. At its Conference in FICARQ, Aires Mateus will make a presentation of the latest projects of its study.
New technologies
Another novelty that FICARQ adds in its fourth edition to its contents will be new technologies. The Festival seeks to explore immersive film production, and the momentum that the popularization of VR (Virtual reality) devices will give 360 experience in cinema. In this sense, the evolution of the audiovisual sector raises a new ideal technological ecosystem that filmmakers and architects work together in audiovisual future, possibly very different from the traditional narratives.
In this environment of the evolution of the screens and the new display formats, the FICARQ will present also this year a unique initiative in the world in the hands of the TouchVie application. It is an experimental interactive pass where the mobile will no longer be an annoying element to watch a movie and will become a tool to interact with the audiovisual speech and establish new forms of communication out of the screen.
In the structure of this year, FICARQ, has curated by Richard Levene, director of the journal El Croquis, for the part of architecture, and the filmmaker Zoe Berriat a for part of cinematic fiction.
FICARQ se desarrollar principalmente en las sedes del CASYC y de la Filmoteca de Santander, aunque su actividad se extender a otros espacios, como la sala de actividades culturales del Colegio de Arquitectos de Cantabria, y explorar tambi n la colaboraci n con espacios y salas privadas de la ciudad.
La IV edici n del FICARQ ha sido posible gracias a la colaboraci n del Ayuntamiento de Santander, la Filmoteca de Cantabria, el CASYC , la Fundaci n Bot n, Movistar+, Diario Monta s y COACAN. Adem s, a fecha de hoy contamos con el apoyo de empresas como Viesgo, Staar Surgical, Liberbank, Touchvie y Deluxe sin cuyo apoyo el Festival no ser a viable.
