WRAL-TV 31st Annual Coats for Children Campaign Raises $185,554, Over 3,600 Coats to Keep Kids Warm This Winter

January temperatures finally turned to winter, but many Triangle children had warm coats to protect them from the chill. The 2019 WRAL-TV Coats for the Children Campaign wrapped on December 31, and the impressive totally are now in. The 31st annual campaign brought in $185,554 in contributions. Generous viewers also donated 3,624 coats, 1,300 hats, scarves and gloves; and 384 toys in Wake County alone! Durham, Orange, Person and Cumberland Counties are still sorting!

Once again the people in our community answered the call, to help area children and families in need, said WRAL-TV Local Production Manager Don Ursich, who served as the Executive Producer of the Coats Campaign and Telethon for the first time. Im so proud to be a part of such a wonderful initiative. I look forward to the 2020 campaign and seeing how we can grow the event and continue to serve the communities we live and work in.

Along with a new Executive Producer, the Coats for the Campaign saw many changes in 2019. The telethon on Friday, December 13, expanded to two locations. The live broadcasts and phone banks were located in the CBC Corporate building at the WRAL Studios in Raleigh and in the PNC Triangle Club at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. WRAL-TV personalities made pitches in both places throughout the day.

WRAL-TV partners with the Salvation Army each year of the campaign, working together to help provide coats and warm winter clothing for children in need in the Triangle. Various CBC divisions also pitch in on the effort.
