The shortlist for this year's RT Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2023, in association with IMRO & IRMA, was announced today on RT 2FM's Tracy Clifford Show.

The shortlist is as follows (alphabetical order):

Chubby Cat - Big Dog Barking

CMAT - Stay For Something

Cian Ducrot - Heaven

John Francis Flynn - Mole In The Ground

Niall Horan - Heaven

Hozier - Eat Your Young

Jazzy - Giving Me

Kojaque Woof

Lankum -Go Dig My Grave

Soda Blonde - Bad Machine

To vote for the RT Choice Music Prize, Irish Song of the Year 2023, visit www.rte.ie/2fm.

Votes are limited to one per person per day. Only votes cast in the Republic of Ireland will be counted. Voting closes at midnight on Sunday 18th February.

The winning song will be announced by Tracy Clifford on 7th March on a special Song of the Year radio show on 2FM that afternoon ahead of the live event.

A special RT Choice Music Prize highlights programme will be broadcast on RT 2 television the following week.

The winning album will be announced in the week or two ahead of live event, while the prize will be presented along with the other prizes at the RT Choice Music Prize live event in Vicar Street.

The winners of the Irish Album of the Year, Irish Artist of the Year and Irish Breakthrough Artist of the Year will all be announced at the live event from Vicar St on RT 2FM in a special show 7-11pm on Thursday 7th March. The show will feature performances from many of the album-shortlisted acts, further details on the line-up to be announced soon.

The 19th annual RT Choice Music Prize will once again celebrate the best in Irish recorded music. The Prize has become one of the music-industry highlights of the year since its inception in 2005. The Irish Album of the Year award is chosen from a shortlist of ten albums by a panel of eleven Irish music media professionals and industry experts. The list of judges is available via http://www.choicemusicprize.ie

The winning Album of the Year act will receive 10,000, a prize fund which has been provided by The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA). All shortlisted acts will receive a specially commissioned award.

RAAP, Culture Ireland, First Music Contact, Minding Creative Minds and Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet are also official project partners of the RT Choice Music Prize.

Through its funding of the Music From Ireland programme, Culture Ireland's support of the RT Choice Music Prize will be directed towards shortlisted artists, as well as assisting the RT Choice Music Prize Conversations .

The RT Choice Music Prize is organised by David Reid. Editor of RT Brainstorm, Jim Carroll is the chairman of the judging panel for Irish Album of the Year. It is unique in that the judging of the Album of the Year focuses simply and solely on the music (as opposed to sales or airplay). A new panel of judges has been put in place for each of the three categories and the list of all the judges is on the website. This is the nineteenth year of the prize.
