This Monday, 26 October, marking 40 years of Derry Halloween, Samhain Dhoire - Sc al na Cathrach is a new Irish-language documentary exploring how a small community celebration grew into Europe's biggest Halloween festival. Through archive footage and personal stories, the programme reflects on Derry's history, the Troubles and the resilience, creativity and community spirit that helped reshape the city's identity. Featuring the people behind the festival and preparations for its 40th anniversary, this RT documentary reveals the story behind one of Ireland's most iconic Halloween celebrations.
Former state pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy investigates Ireland's last witchcraft trial, which took place on Islandmagee in 1711, when eight local women were accused of witchcraft by an 18-year-old woman claiming to be possessed. Travelling across Ireland and Scotland, Marie meets historians, scientists and experts to examine the evidence, the brutal punishments inflicted on the women and the religious and social beliefs that shaped the trial. Combining historical research with modern scientific and psychological perspectives, Marie explores a dark chapter in Irish history and the enduring story of prejudice against women. Dr Marie Cassidy Investigates Ireland's Last Witch Trial airs Thursday 29 October at 10:15pm.
