Cignal Presents: Colours Gala Featuring Lesley Mobo November 19, 2012
Cignal Digital TV, the country's premier satellite pay TV provider, together with its living magazine channel, Colours, recently concluded its first annual gala event at the impressive Mall of Asia Arena during the culmination of Philippine Fashion Week last October 29, 2012.
Since Cignal started, and consequently its living magazine channel, Colours, it has been guided by its primary thrust of providing the country with the best quality TV viewing experience that is both entertaining and educational. The event, dubbed as Cignal presents: Colours Gala featuring Lesley Mobo, signals the first of an annual celebration of Filipinos who persevered in their education and honed their talents that led to their worlwide recognition. Lesly Mobo a renowned Filipino designer based in London whose work was the highlight of the event, is a true testament of how education can indeed transform anyone who persists above all odds.
It has always been our commitment to support top-notch and worthwhile projects that will inspire Filipinos to become world-class talents, and we feel that we will be able to achieve that through this event. More importantly, we would also like more Filipinos to appreciate Lesley's creativity and be inspired by it. Through his story, we wish to encourage Filipinos all over the world to dream big, work hard and make use of their talent in order to attain success, said Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman of the Board, PLDT.
The event showcased Lesley Mobo's stunning Spring-Summer 2013 collection composed mainly of women's wear with a fresh, fun and luxurious look to Manila's 500. Mobo's first-ever gala show in Manila was inspired by the famous orchestral work, The Rite of Spring, by Russian composer, Igor Stravinsky.
As spring season is about construction and quality, the collection explores easier shapes with a classic look but incorporates a contemporary edge to it. It also focuses on neutral color palettes such as sugar white, charcoal black and wheat and biscuit nude, said Mobo.
Guests were wowed as models walked down the one-of-a-kind stage showcasing an evolution of elegant pieces from classic crocheted white dresses to a burst of pastel colored sheer gowns.
A result of the collaboration between Philippine fashion advocate, Kaye Tinga, and ace fashion director, Ariel Lozada, the event was hosted by Tessa Prieto-Valdez, which opened with an artistically prepared symbolic fashion video, setting the standards for the elaborate collection. An exclusive sit-down dinner and top-notch entertainment from British band, Blake, completed the world-class event.
Although the current creative director of the London-based fashion label Ghost, Mobo originally started his career in fashion in the Philippines when an unpleasant episode urged him to leave the country and start anew. In London, he found his path towards success. He studied at the prestigious Central Saint Martins where he earned his B.A. and M.A. in Fashion, and managed to complete both with distinction. Then, he worked for global clothing brand Jasmine di Milo as head designer.
His undeniable talent, mastered technical skills, and ingenious designs garnered numerous awards, and were featured in the UK's respected newspapers and fashion magazines. Mobo'screations have also been worn by international celebrities such as Anne Hathaway, Cristina Ricci, Kelly Osbourne, Zoe Saldana, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna.
Picking up from Mobo's life story, the show at the Colours Gala not only inspired aspiring Filipino designers, but also benefitted the underprivileged. The event also featured the LIGHTOMORROW Project with Save the Children Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to make quality education accessible and affordable to the less fortunate. Through the guests' pledges of support, the beneficiaries of the said foundation will have easier access to education with the use of computers that will enable a home schooling approach.
The Colours Gala was presented by PLDT, Department of Tourism, Smart, Sun, W/17 and Dusit Thani. It was also supported by Michelis, Villa del Conte and BDO, together with media partners Manila Bulletin, Meg Magazine, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Preview and Stylebible.
