NAB 2026: Glookast integrates Cinnafilm Tachyon plugin to enable GPU-accelerated video processing

Glookast has launched the Cinnafilm Tachyon plugin for its Media Producer and Media Services platforms. The plugin, which utilises the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU based on the Blackwell architecture, provides GPU-accelerated standards conversion, frame rate conversion, and de-interlacing for broadcast and post-production workflows. The plugin is available as a licensed add-on starting with version 26.4.

The integration incorporates the Tachyon video processing engine into Glookast workflows, allowing for automated conversion tasks.

The hardware configuration for the plugin features 6,144 CUDA cores and 12 GB of GDDR7 memory, enabling multi-stream processing at HD, 2K, and 4K resolutions. The 5th-generation Tensor Cores are utilised for motion-compensated detail preservation within the processing pipeline.

The software includes two automated operational modes:

Live Mode: Optimised for throughput and low latency, intended for on-air broadcast, live events, and real-time distribution.

File-Based Mode: Intended for post-production, archival, and OTT master preparation, utilising full processing depth including multi-pass motion analysis.

This development is intended to reduce the requirement for dedicated hardware systems by enabling software-defined, GPU-accelerated processing within existing Media Producer and Media Services tools. The system is designed to support applications such as live sports, news production, and multi-territory content distribution.
