4 March 2016: Major Easter Monday Events Promise Thousands of Free Public Tickets as Dublin City Streets and Buildings Open for Concerts, Performances, Talks and Screenings
www.rte.ie/1916
This bank holiday Easter Monday, Dublin city centre, north and south, will be transformed by the biggest public history and cultural event ever staged in Ireland, as RT Reflecting the Rising in partnership with Ireland 2016 invites people to reimagine Dublin and Ireland of 100 years ago.
RT Reflecting the Rising in partnership with Ireland 2016 is a free family event that will take place in Dublin city from 11am 6pm on Monday 28th March. Visitors will experience an enormous variety of talks and exhibitions, live musical and theatrical performances, special films, interactive activities and family entertainment as RT and Ireland 2016 seek to capture the sights, sounds and stories of our shared past.
According to Noel Curran, Director-General RT : 1916 is a year of huge emotional and political significance in Irish history. Since the beginning of 2016, RT has produced a range of programming and events to allow audiences engage with, reflect on, commemorate and celebrate both 1916 and the past 100 years. As part of our continuing schedule of programming and events, RT Reflecting the Rising promises to be a special public event across Dublin city on Easter Monday. RT , working with Ireland 2016 and a range of other partners, have produced a rich and diverse cultural and historical programme of free events and activities for the public. I very much hope that the public respond, as they did last year, to this great collective effort by filling the streets and the historic buildings of our capital city and joining RT to commemorate and celebrate a century of Irish life.
John Concannon, Director of Ireland 2016, added: Ireland 2016 is deeply proud to be associated with RTE Reflecting the Rising. This is the one of the largest public cultural events ever undertaken in the history of the State and one that embraces the qualities of creativity, participation and inclusivity that represent the very best of the Centenary Programme. Alongside the State Ceremonial event and Parade on Easter Sunday, it forms the centrepiece of our Easter weekend and promises to be a highlight of the year. This wonderful event is a remarkable expression of what people everywhere asked of us an opportunity to participate and celebrate in a shared expression of pride in our past and hope for our future.

Lorelei Harris, Head of Arts and Cultural Strategy, RT , says: RT Reflecting The Rising in partnership with Ireland 2016 represents a great shared effort to capture a real sense of what life was like 100 years ago on the streets and in the buildings that were so central to our collective history. We have spent many months putting together a programme of events and activities for people of all ages to engage with, explore and enjoy. Building on the tremendous public response to last Easter's RT Road to The Rising, we really hope that the public will react positively to what will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to engage and connect with the rich history that surrounds them and make this a national occasion to remember.
RT Reflecting the Rising in partnership with Ireland 2016 has been created in partnership with the National Transport Authority, Dublin City Council and the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. It is part of RT 1916, an ambitious programme of content and events across television, radio, mobile and online, which invites people, at home and
